Publisher's summary

Influence: Science and Practice is an examination of the psychology of compliance (i.e. uncovering which factors cause a person to say "yes" to another's request).

Written in a narrative style combined with scholarly research, Cialdini combines evidence from experimental work with the techniques and strategies he gathered while working as a salesperson, fundraiser, advertiser, and in other positions inside organizations that commonly use compliance tactics to get us to say "yes." Widely used in classes, as well as sold to people operating successfully in the business world, the eagerly awaited revision of Influence reminds the listener of the power of persuasion.

Cialdini organizes compliance techniques into six categories based on psychological principles that direct human behavior: reciprocation, consistency, social proof, liking, authority, and scarcity.

Timeless valuable knowledge to live by

as a practitioner of neuro-linguistic programming, I was referred to this book bye my trainer today an Insight on methods of advertising my business. I definitely received all I expected and more.

After completing this book not only did I know what's been happening to me my whole life as it is with everyone else, I also knew how to ethically use this information for my own business.

The emphasis here is on ethical. I agree with the author that far too often our use of short cuts for decision making have been abused by marketing compliance professionals, and the government.

The society at large has been guided like herds of sheep to believe whatever underlying governmental agenda is being thrust on us at any given time. For those who are ignorant of the information shared here about how and why we make decisions the way that we do, it has been especially easy to lead them to believe or act the way the deceivers intend.

I have completed this book in December of 2020. The aggressive bombardment of political and corporate agendas being thrust on us daily through every means possible is overwhelming , exhausting and disgusting.

The most prevalent form of the attack is fear-mongering in every type of media that we could possibly be exposed to. The government and marketing specialist all are praying on the average person's fear of loss to gain control of societal behaviors and change what has been societal norms to a new abnormal that is to be accepted as normal.

People who are normally rational thinking decision makers in their own lives have been duped into believing that every molecule of fresh air outside their home is Tainted with disease that only effects adults not children.

If only everyone would read this book The blinders would be removed and they would see what's really happening to them.

They would see that they are rapidly and voluntarily giving up constitutionally guaranteed freedoms they may never be able to get back.

I predict that if everyone does not wake from the trance they've been put into, that when this current attack is over we will see a vaccine that is forced upon Society based on weather a person wants keep their livelihood, live in a decent home, go to a particular School or travel on public transportation and a new tracking device installed first in our driver licenses and then our bodies. And the sole purpose for both of these weapons is compliance.

While it is nice to be awake and aware it is also bittersweet.

the best book I have ever read on human behavior

Very comprehensive, great narration, and credible content that you can relate with. I highly recommend it to anyone. the information provided in this audiobook will help you understand yourself and others better, and hopefully also make you more aware and alert against those who may try to manipulate you through techniques that we are prone to fall into.

Great content, Sloppy audiobook

Multiple times throughout the book you hear things like "this is the end of the first CD. The book will continue on the next"

The content is stellar and if you're willing to put up with a bit of that, it's definitely worth your time to listen.

Unbelievable insight using and explaining research results. The audio book could be better though. keeps Saying You should change the CD and the chapters don't correspond.

There's much truth to this book

While listening to this book I caught myself acknowledging different influence techniques being used on me. By becoming more aware I was less swayed to act and behave against my own interest. Thank you.

Learn what causes automatic reactions

Similar concepts as Predictably Irrational. Highly worthwhile to learn how people think. Cialdini shares his experiences in different sales training programs, religious organisations and reader contributions, why people comply.

Worth what you'll save when you avoid being taken

If you've taken psych 101, you'll be familiar with at least half of the research. Familiar social experiments mixed with some more specific to selling. But there is also the author's own investigative research (he has a fancier name for it), and this is used to supply examples of how advertisers and sales people dupe us into bad purchases.

I'd recommend as a stocking stuffer for your shopaholic friends/ car dealing brother in law.
