Publisher's summary

Do you overthink before taking action? Are you prone to making negative predictions? Do you worry about the worst that could happen? Do you take negative feedback very hard? Are you self-critical? Does anything less than perfect performance feel like failure?

If any of these issues resonate with you, you're probably suffering from some degree of anxiety, and you're not alone. The good news: While reducing your anxiety level to zero isn't possible or useful (anxiety can actually be helpful!), you can learn to successfully manage symptoms - such as excessive rumination, hesitation, fear of criticism, and paralysing perfection.

In The Anxiety Toolkit, Dr. Alice Boyes translates powerful, evidence-based tools used in therapy clinics into tips and tricks you can employ in everyday life. Whether you have an anxiety disorder, or are just anxiety-prone by nature, you'll discover how anxiety works, strategies to help you cope with common anxiety "stuck" points and a confidence that - anxious or not - you have all the tools you need to succeed in life and work.

Why did I get this book?

I'm not sure where I saw what triggered me to waste a credit on this, but I did. If I can remember where, I sure won't go back there.

good info

Very useful information. I'm glad the author has many resources on her website as the audio book is not as easy to look things up in as a hard copy would be.

Didn’t love

The content might be good but wouldn’t know because the narrator’s voice and tone really didn’t fit the tone of the book. Nice voice but felt very salesy and not authentic. I wish the author narrated it because the subject matter is pretty sensitive.

Q&As disrupt the flow

What could Alice Boyes, PhD have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I wish there weren't questions with multiple choice answers in the book. "Question and A)--- B)--- C)---, which one applies to you? Repeat." If it was paperback, you can just skip them but when each and every one is read out to you, it's annoying.

How could the performance have been better?

If we didn't have to hear the Q&A's throughout the book.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I like the concept of this book, the CBT approach and the upbeat "let's fix it" attitude. The narration was cheerful and decent, although it could've been a little slower.
