Publisher's summary

If you grew up with an emotionally immature, unavailable, or selfish parent, you may recall your childhood as a time when your emotional needs were not met or dismissed—and you may have lingering feelings of anger, loneliness, betrayal, and abandonment. As an adult, you have fought hard to establish your own sense of self, and heal the wounds caused by your upbringing.

But what about other emotionally immature people (EIP) in your life? As an adult child of an emotionally immature parent (ACEIP), you may be particularly vulnerable to EIPs. If you're tired of being emotionally hijacked by EIPs, this handbook can help you avoid common traps, build confidence, and stand strong.

This guide provides solutions to help you manage relationships with any emotionally immature person. You'll find practical insights and explorations into the most common challenges ACEIPs face, and practical guidance to help set boundaries and establish healthier relationships. You'll learn to handle difficult interactions with EIPs, understand their responses, and transform your relationships.

With this handbook, you'll understand how EIPs function, shift your own perspective, and stand up for yourself.

Validating… and so much more

So validating on how she describes the actions and behaviors of emotionally immature people and how they “make you feel” when often we’re told others can’t make us feel any-way, we all know if we’ve been in an unhealthy toxic relationship, just how coercive they can be and how insidious behavior becomes normal and chips away at our self confidence and overall sense of self. This book has been super helpful in detaching and letting go.

The most important book I’ve listened to all year.

This book is comprehensive, well written and full of wisdom. I highly recommend it to everyone, because we are all meeting EMPs in our lives and in ourselves. Imagine if people could grow up emotionally what the world would be like.

Clarity, finally.

Well-paced and articulate outline of emotionally immature people and how our lives are affected by them. I enjoyed the tips at the end of each chapter to put information to use.

Super healing, insightful & therapeutic :)

This book is a must keep. It is an incredible worthwhile investment of one’s time if you are grappling with issues that pertain to dealing with or not wanting to deal with EIP’s. I personally would recommend reading this book more than once. Let all the richness of it soak in. :)

Perhaps the most impactful book of my life

I needed this book on so many levels and I’m so many ways. At times I was shouting in agreement and shock at how specific her descriptions were. This book has already begun enabling me to let go of a lot of self recrimination for characteristics I grew up thinking made me inferior, which I now recognize as coping mechanisms. The validation and feelings of being understood that I received from this book felt exquisite. At times I felt such relief to have my frustration and feelings of wondering if I am the crazy one described so perfectly and in a way that reinforced my perception, enabling me to let go of that turmoil that it brought me to tears. I know for sure this book has changed me life. I wish I could give Dr. Lyndsey Gibson a hug and say thank you.
