Publisher's summary

Dr. Lisa Mosconi, whose research spans an extraordinary range of specialties including brain science, the microbiome, and nutritional genomics, notes that the dietary needs of the brain are substantially different from those of the other organs, yet few of us have any idea what they might be. Her innovative approach to cognitive health incorporates concepts that most doctors have yet to learn. Busting through advice based on pseudoscience, Dr. Mosconi provides recommendations for a complete food plan, while calling out noteworthy surprises, including why that paleo diet you are following may not be ideal, why avoiding gluten may be a terrible mistake, and how simply getting enough water can dramatically improve alertness.

Including comprehensive lists of what to eat and what to avoid, a detailed quiz that will tell you where you are on the brain health spectrum, and 24 mouth-watering brain-boosting recipes that grow out of Dr. Mosconi's own childhood in Italy, Brain Food gives us the ultimate plan for a healthy brain. Brain Food will appeal to anyone looking to improve memory, prevent cognitive decline, eliminate brain fog, lift depression, or just sharpen their edge.

Good but not as audiobook…

I enjoyed this book and there was a lot of information. Unfortunately without accompanying PDF’s there is no way to access lists of certain foods or the recipes! The author states in the book things are available on her website- but lists of certain foods are not which would make things easier. Wish I had purchase hard copy instead of audio.

Interesting but seems to be very outdated, and often irritating

The book is interesting and gives a nice overview of what we should eat but I think that many of those advices are expired. Wine, for example, is no longer considered as healthy, noni juice was popular many years ago and it was mostly a marketing, lemon juice in the morning- researches did not confirm any positive effect other than drinking water. Plus hearing most of the book that the worst the author goes is to order sushi in a 5 stars restaurant may be irritating. Plus repeating the website address all the time, which doesn’t include mentioned recipes was very irritating. I guess the book ma by better for a normal reading than listening

Great review

I learned some valuable things, some very eye opening. It’s a bit generalized for the average premenopausal person and some conflicts with protein forward approach to a postmenopausal diet. I also disagree that daily wine can be that neuroprotective. It loses a bit of credibility for me with these couple of conflicting suggestions but the scientific research into brain fMRIs is really fascinating. Organic produce “code” also very helpful.

Voice

Sounds like a computer reading this. The content is good and so important but the digital voice makes it hard to listen to.

Voice over choice questionable

The voice over is awful! Ready to put me asleep. Got through the book at 1.2 speed. Content good but somewhat repetitive. Wonder if it would have been a different experience with a difference voice narrator.

Interesting and informative but needed pdf

Very interesting and informative but with so much information, the audiobook needs an accompanying pdf file.

this book and its advice is incredibly good! I only wish Lisa mosconi had been the one reading it herself. yet, it is still really really good.

Nothing new here

After hearing about Dr. Mosconi on Dr. Perlmutters website I had high expectations. I didn't find any new or surprising information.
