Publisher's summary

The Harvard-educated physician and New York Times best-selling author of The Hormone Cure shows you how to grow new receptors for your seven metabolic hormones, making you lose weight and feel great fast!

When it comes to weight loss, most people don't think about hormones. But when you develop resistance to your seven major metabolic hormones--cortisol, thyroid, testosterone, growth hormone, leptin, insulin, and estrogen--your body adjusts by increasingly raising your hormone levels and ultimately slowing down your metabolism. And a slower metabolism leads to weight gain and difficulty losing weight. The solution, Dr. Sara Gottfried contends, is to reset the efficiency of your hormones by repairing and growing new hormone receptors.

Based on leading scientific research, The Hormone Reset Diet is her proven weight-loss and energy program to reverse hormone resistance in just three weeks. It will help you:

  • Boost your metabolism and calorie burning by growing new and fresh thyroid receptors
  • Increase your weight loss by rebalancing estrogen and progesterone receptors
  • Reverse your aging by resetting glucocorticoid receptors (for better processing of cortisol)

For the last 20 years, this Harvard-MIT educated physician has helped thousands of women address the root hormonal causes of what bothers them most: excess weight, lack of energy, aging, and illness. Going beyond her best-selling The Hormone Cure, this program is the next generation of her deep understanding of hormonal optimization for rapid weight loss.

Unrealistic

I've listened to the audiobook twice to try and study up before starting on the plan, and the more I listen the less I think this program would be realistic for most people to follow. I also think any weight loss would be the natural result of the huge decrease in the calories consumed each day from following the plan than as a result of any hormone resetting. I also question some of her data and reasoning. For instance in meatless, she raves about the decrease in testosterone levels shown in men going meatless, but it's my understanding that decreased testosterone in men is an unfavorable health condition. She also demands in the second reset that you decrease your sugar intake to no more than 15 grams per day, which she says is less than the 25 grams recommended by the American Heart Association. The AHA recommendation is for no more than 25 grams of ADDED sugar per day, which they differentiate from naturally occurring sugar. By taking out sugar in reset 2 and basically removing fruit and all grains thereafter, her plan is nothing more than the Atkins diet on steroids done without red meat and caffeine free. I was very excited at first to try it, but the more I studied it, the more jaded I became. I would love to see some reviews from people - preferably working women who have a husband and kids to feed, too - who have actually done the plan to a T and hear their experiences before I return the book.

Too much information for audio

This book is very interesting and I was excited to hear about the science of balancing my hormones but there is way to much information for an audio book. The enhancement is 120 pages... I gave up trying to remember and bookmark important information. I ordered the paper copy.

Triggering

If you are recovering from an eating disorder or binge dieting, I strongly recommend to skip this book. The material as such is very interesting, but the approach to weight and health is a bit unmerciful. I feel bad about the author who refers in a rather negative way to herself as having been "fat" at a BMI of 29,1 (yes, I had to calculate it to support my initial reaction). The hormones are not the prime concern, the weight is. To someone in recovery this is toxic. To someone still deep in body dysmorphia this is toxic. To someone obese this is toxic. Let's not weight shame, let's get healthy all the way!

Good if you aren't healthy to start

This book is great for those folks who are looking to kick start their health or weight loss journey, however, if you're already living a healthy and active life, there are better resources out there to detox and reset your hormone imbalance. Just one woman's opinion!

Gimmicky

The narrator was better for this book, but The Hormone Cure has more realistic strategies -- this book feels very all-or-nothing and even 21 days of this kind of perfection seems impossible.

I'm recommending to all my friends and clients

This book makes so much sense regarding diet and health and hormones. I don't want to cut out meat and alcohol and sugar and gluten and mainly eat a plant based diet, but it works!!!
I gave it low performance because the recording is robotic sounding.

Just another cleanse

I'm no PhD but I have extensive experience in the fitness industry and this is just a dressed up cleanse. She has some valid points about the affects of foods on the various hormones - the only saving grace of the book - but she intends for you to eliminate most foods systematically for 21 days every 90 days. Who WOULDN'T lose weight? And not exercise because you may eat more? What about all the added health benefits of being active the negate the small amount more you may eat ESPECIALLY if it's unprocessed, low glycemic foods? Nope, this method is definitely not for me.

Great information - horrible reader/audio

I can't stand the women's voice reading the book. She sounds like a robot and pauses in odd areas. This really ruined the audio book experience for me. The information was great. I would have preferred to read the book myself if I knew that the audio book would be so painful to listen to.

Avoid

Makes promises that it's different, no calorie counting etc, then goes through the tired old extreme diet book format that I swore off long ago.

Not too impressed

I haven't finished listening to it. I already don't eat many things she mention in book. More common sense than a revolutionary idea.

Life Changing - literally

Where does The Hormone Reset Diet rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This really was a great listen - and not too loaded with super scientific lingo... to the point, informative and really made me feel like this is achievable. I think EVERYONE would benefit from listening and learning about diet and the impact it has on our body and vice versa, in the age we live in, there are so many illnesses that can be reversed with diet. We don't need to live in ignorance and with health issues.

Smart informative book

Sara Gottfried is a very smart & great at bringing information to woman.
Narration was not suited to book, to high pitched & sounded like a teenager talking about a middle age subject.
She is much more suited to romance.
Found voice irritating. Sara has a lovely & calming voice & I wish she narrated her own book.

What All Women Need to Know

Fantastic research based information but narrator does not do Dr Sara Gottfried justice. Intonation is more like a sales pitch. A more natural voice / reader would have done Sara’s work and research justice.
I have heard Sara speak and be interview and find her stance on women and women’s body changes life changing information. I am 65 and have always had a lean body so it’s not about weight loss for me: it’s about vital information that I wish I had known from my late teens onwards but was not available at that time.

incredible resource. A one stop shop for your body

everything you need for mind, body, soul, and spirit. A faith booster and encouraging resource regardless of your beliefs. have a listen with a curious heart and mind. its wisdom at its highest. i lost 6.2 kg on this first reset journey post two kids and a chronic bone disease where i was struggling after 13 weeks on antibiotics. i can still have the occasional wine, enjoy organic greek yoghart twice a week and reintroduced coffee once a day. its all about knowledge and balance not cutting forever the things you enjoy
