Most of us have heard of gluten - a protein found in wheat that causes widespread inflammation in the body. Americans spend billions of dollars on gluten-free diets in an effort to protect their health. But what if we’ve been missing the root of the problem? In The Plant Paradox, renowned cardiologist Dr. Steven Gundry reveals that gluten is just one variety of a common, and highly toxic, plant-based protein called lectin.

Publisher's Summary
Does losing weight and staying healthy feel like a battle? Well, it's really a war. Your enemies are your own genes, backed by millions of years of evolution, and the only way to win is to outsmart them. From the renowned surgeon and founder of Gundry MD, this revolutionary book shares the health secrets other doctors won't tell you:
- Why plants are "good" for you because they're "bad" for you, and meat is "bad" because it's "good" for you
- Why plateauing on this diet is actually a sign that you're on the right track
- Why artificial sweeteners have the same effects as sugar on your health and your waistline
- Why taking antacids, statins, and drugs for high blood pressure and arthritis masks health issues instead of addressing them
Along with the meal planner, 70 delicious recipes, and inspirational stories, Dr. Gundry's easy-to-memorize tips will keep you healthy and on course.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your Library section along with the audio.

Changed my life
This book has changed my life. Had my first heart attack at 40 years old. I had to have an emergency stent placed and all my arteries were partially blocked. I am married with three children and was working a high stress job. I was a former athlete with a terrible diet and a lack of understanding of my genes.
This book has taught me to reset those killer genes and the results have been amazing. In just two months I have dropped 25 pounds and counting. I have more energy and many of my pains that I felt are starting to go away. I can’t wait to see what the future holds and I am maternally grateful for Dr. Gundry

Why isn't this more mainstream!
I am instantly hooked on this way of life. I recently turned 50 and began looking for a way to keep the weight off. This book came into my life at the right time. And Btw, short of having my stomach stapled, I have tried just about every diet on the market. Even took Phen Phen for a little bit. While I believe it is probably not that easy to implement this diet completely, it is definitely doable. When you hear how Dr. Grundy explains our eating habits compared to our ancestors, it really puts our current habits in perspective. Eat less, eat fresh and live healthy!
Btw, it's not a diet, it's a way of life. Thank you Dr. G.!!

Interesting...But is it Doable?
Dr Gundry shares his expertise in the medical field and w Diet Evoultion in a clear cut, scientific and often humorous way. Love his Gundrisms. But, is it doable? I live in the South and we love white, beige and fried foods. I know that's part of our problem but leaving all that behind for life sounds impossible for most. However, his plan is enticing. The testimonials he shares through out this book sure makes me want to try. So, I have decided to give it the recommended 2 weeks and see if this is evolution or more of the same. The narrator is great! The extra PDF files available are a tremendous resource. Beware over 150 pages, a book in themselves. I recommend this audio book. However, time will tell if what the good Dr shares is doable or just another pie in the sky dream for the masses.

Hard to know what to think
This is one of those books for which writing a review is difficult. The author starts by trying to establish his credibility as a world class medical expert. It's important that he do that since most of the book has some wild claims which are not presented with any evidence whatsoever in support of those claims.
I happen to believe a lot of the content, and even so, I didn't know what to think of much of the what I was listening to. Dr. Gundry states that our diet activates killer genes that attempt to kill us off once it is clear that we're becoming a burden to our tribe but the examples he gives seems to just be items of his own choosing. Orange juice is a "bad item" for him -- I agree with that. In fact I agree with most but not all of this nutritional advice, but I couldn't help thinking that he could have just randomly picked any items since he didn't largely seem to be providing any type of evidence in support his choices.
In a a decade from now I think it's like that everyone comes to understand that food is information and that such information up-regulates or down-regulates various genes either to our eventual benefit or detriment, or some combination thereof. But Dr. Gundry seems to write as if all of this is certain and that he has all of the answers. Part of the problem I think was the narrator as I don't think it was possible to find a worse choice for this book. Within a few minutes of listening just the tone and manner of speaking ending of making the content much less credible, which isn't fair and shouldn't have been the case. So, I didn't mind reading the book and somethings in it were novel and interesting, but I don't really know if I would recommend it to others.

Interesting way to look at food
Fascinating book about how are genetics and food interact with each other. Heard about this book from John Tesh and his podcasts. Coming from a world renown heart doctor this book its truly inspiring me by the way I look at the food that was not around 100 years ago! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to turn back the clock on how you eat and how to age better.
