Publisher's Summary

From the creators of the best-selling Life Recovery series, Take Your Life Back is a groundbreaking look at how to overcome unhealthy relationships and love others well. Counselors Stephen Arterburn and David Stoop offer personal examples, clinical insight, and scriptural truth to help you navigate your toughest relationships.

Do you have a relationship that leaves you feeling drained? Maintaining and improving this kind of relationship - whether it's a spouse, a friend, or a child - can feel exhausting, fruitless, and toxic to your own health. It's complicated: You love the person, but sometimes you feel as if you're pouring all your energy into holding your loved one, and your relationship, together. And if he or she failed or stumbled - would that make you a failure, too? What would happen if you walked away?

Arterburn and Stoop have helped millions walk the path of health through their New Life Ministries and counseling center - and now, in Take Your Life Back, they reach out to those who walk the path alongside them. We are called to love one another deeply, but it is possible to support your loved one in a way that honors the relationship, God, and yourself. Take Your Life Back is the key to fostering healthy, God-honoring attachments that benefit you and the one you love.

"A clear path to emotional health and wholeness"

All the information it has taken me years to gather was systemically documented in this book.

After just a few chapters I felt confident that the changes I have been making to become a better me and closer to the ME God Intended, were the right choices, but sadly, long overdue.
I enjoyed the Biblical references that were sprinkled throughout this book and the examples of concepts that were demonstrated using scripture.

I already had deep respect for these authors after reading a couple of their other books, and I am happy to say my expectations were not disappointed.

If you are being controlled or feel like your life and relationships are not what you hoped, this is an amazing book to start a new journey toward a new more fulfilling life.

    "Healthy Healing for the heart!!!"

This was a smooth read. Must own book! I will add this title to my physical library. So many good points to ponder I will read/listen again and again. I'm looking forward to doing a small group with this title.

    "Depressing"

    Wow
I thought this book would give me hope but I was very disappointed.
I realize my childhood was the result of what makes me now.
I've was pretty discouraged as I read this book making me feel more hopeless. It would be nice if a therapist could erase all the harm caused by a messed up childhood but they can't. It would be nice if Celebrate Recovery could help or AA or any other group for that matter. All self help is like a band aid.
God in his love helps us move past all that. We've got to keep going. Looking back is not healing!
This book reads like Celebrate Recovery, or AA etc.

    "Many nuggets of truth"

This is one of those books that needs to be listened to over and over again because there is too much "food" to digest all at once. I think there is something for everyone in it.
