Publisher's summary

Within every community, toxic people can be found hiding in families, couples, companies, and places of worship. The cryptic nature of psychological abuse involves repetitious mind games played by one individual or a group of people. Psychological abuse leaves no bruises. There are no broken bones. There are no holes in the walls. The bruises, brokenness, and holes are held tightly within the target of the abuse.

Very helpful, simple, yet full of vital info

I loved the narrator and it was written with basic key points and steps for recovery. She wrote with authority on the topic, but didn't babble on about personal history, like many books on the subject. I definately recommend this helpful, easy read.

great to open the doors.of healing

This is a great introduction for survivors trying to make sense of what happened to them in their toxic relationships. There is enough information here to want to dig deeper. I listened to this book twice just to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Wish there were more samples of how to handle situations with toxic people, but I also know that was not the intent for this book. hopefully there will be a sequel to to this that helps explain more.
I liked this book so much I've shared it with a handful of people!

Grateful for this!

I took my time going through this. Nearly four months since another survivor recommended it. if it weren't for her thoughtfulness and this guide I can honestly say I don't know where I would be emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually right now! So grateful for those who have helped identify this hidden type of abuse! I am 36 and wish I had this knowledge a minimum of ten years ago!

Finally found the words to describe my experience

Thanks to this book l can finally describe in words what l experienced. The author uses a tone that reflects respect and validates the feelings of victims of abuse. She perfectly describes the traits of toxic people and stresses that their behavior is intentional and should not be justified for mental illness or be tolerated no matter the how they are related to the victim. This book is not 1 but many answered prayers.

Good info

Very basic information although accurate. It was a bit hard for me to get through as much of it was common sense.

An amazing book with a terrible performance

These are the adjectives the performer, Wendy Tremont King, uses to describe themselves on their own website: "Cozy - Mystery - Romance - Thriller."

Their tone is so inappropriate for the content. The text, authored by Shannon Thomas, is terrific. It is among the best that I have experienced on the topic (e.g., Toxic Parents by Susan Forward) and far above other works (e.g., Trapped in the Mirror by Elan Golomb) because Thomas sticks to concise, intelligent writing that is straightforward and easy to digest. King's performance, however, gives a terribly misguided air of intrigue in line with cliche thriller novels of which King has performed countless dozens of according to her website. I'm sure King is a wonderful performer in these contexts, but when you're learning about the very concrete objective reality of psychological abuse, it is unwarranted at best and harmful at worst.

I sincerely wish that Thomas finds another narrator and releases a revision. Thomas's text deserves better.
