Powerful

What did you love best about Power Foods for the Brain?

This book was jam-packed with nutritional information that I loved. Dr. Barnard puts the medical information in layman's turns so it is easy to understand and comprehend. Sometimes nutritionists and doctors use their medical terms and expect you to understand what they're saying. There was so much information that I wanted to remember or highlight and so I bought the book! He gives such compelling information from our diets, to vitamins, minerals, exercise, and sleep. Jeremy Arthur also did a great job in narrating the book.

Vegan book

I didn't know that dairy and meats could affect our guts and thus our brain. Say goodbye to all bad habits and get healthy along with me

okay

The book spoke mainly on alzheimer's disease, which does concern the mind but not exactly what I was expecting. Chapter 10 was the best part of the book. I did learn a couple of things. Overall if I could get my money back and select a different book I would. The narrator read fine.

wonderful book

emphasizes plant based eating which I already do but really reinforced what I already believe. Don't eat animals or their products! doesn't do you any good.

some good info but strong bias clouds objectivity

Have read over a dozen books on food and health. I learned a few new things in this one so was worth the time. Agreed with much he said but he is overly biasesd against any animal products to the point it erodes credibility. It seems universally accepted vegetables are good for health in every book I have read. Then you have the fats and ethically and properly raised meat is nutrient dense and critical (paleo camp) and then the carbs and vegan is good (vegetarian or vegan camp). This author quotes a lot of research but like most he picks what supports his existing personal bias. When he says vitamins are best from food except B12 which is better from fortified cereals and vitamins I question his objectivity. Nature provides all that we need not a cereal company or lab. I am interested in science along with balanced common sense and when an author starts in on an animal welfare or all animal products are bad kick you lose me. Human history as well as disease patterns do not support this view. Furthermore everyone's genetics and body's are unique so anyone who says all bread is bad or all meat is bad or all saturated fat is bad is likely pushing their agenda. I read every book with scepticism and look for biases or willfull blindness.

new information on healthy fats is not addressed, seems a little out of date, mostly advocate for a vegetarian diet.
