Publisher's Summary

Hardcore Self Help: F**k Depression is the follow-up to the best-selling F**K Anxiety. In this book I take the information, tips, and insights that I have gained as a psychologist and translate them into language that doesn't suck. This is the self-help book for people who don't usually like self-help books.

In Hardcore Self Help: F**K Depression, I talk to you like a friend. That means I speak directly to you, without psychobabble. Instead I tell you why your brain is such a troll. I explain why you have literally no energy or motivation. I tell you why people are so terrible at offering help. Best of all, I tell you how to take realistic steps toward solving these and many other issues caused by depression.

beginner level help

I've been struggling more than half my life with depression and anxiety (at least 18 years) and feel my experience is past this book. Would be an excellent source for someone beginning their discovery into self help for depression.

extremely helpful!

I found this book to be extremely helpful! it was more insightful than most therapy sessions that I've gone to. Plus, it was like having 10 therapy sessions for less than the price of one! if you are struggling with depression on any level and trying to make positive changes, I highly recommend reading this!

The BEST book on depression EVER

This book has helped me so very much. Where 26 years of meds / therapists/ and psychiatrists have failed at helping , this succeeded. I can't believe how simple he makes everything. I just finished in 2 days. And I already started implementing the changes he mentioned. Awesome!!

casual and informative

I loved this book. I finished it over 3 days only. The narrator speaks casually with you and breaks things down into understandable language. The book contains information about depression, ways you can seek help, and ways you can get started to better yourself. I really really like his reading style. It's not too boring to listen to and is actually captivating. Thanks Dr Duff!

Self-help for self-help haters.

I've been suffering with depression for 11 years. This is the first self help book I made it through and liked. I liked how real he was, and I'm now listening to his podcast online. This has made me think a lot.

Extremely Helpful and Very Entertaining!

This book is terrific! The material is extremely helpful. The author is extremely knowledgeable and a great communicator. I benefited a lot from the very helpful information in the book, plus listening to the author perform his book as I drove back and forth from work lifted my spirits a lot. And since I was very depressed that was a huge bonus. If you suffer from depression, please read and/or listen to the book. And try to have an open mind about his colorful language. It contributes to the communication of his message. And is very funny!

He does a really great job.

What did you love best about Hardcore Self Help: F**k Depression?

This book is very straightforward. It has no annoying euphemisms. It's a book about depression that actually communicates it's ideas in a form palatable to cynical minds. Very well read by the author, it doesn't even sound like a reading most of the time. The information is honest, useful and even motivating. The author spends a deal of time trying to connect with the listener, and it goes a little ways toward breaking down some walls you may have about these kinds of books. I generally find self help books unbearably disingenuous or unrealistically optimistic. I didn't get any of that from this. If you are dealing with depression this is worth a listen.

What about Robert Duff’s performance did you like?

Guy knocked it out of the park. Could have been in the room with me giving some honest advice.

Any additional comments?

The 'Hardcore' title is a bit extreme, at first glance of the title you may get the idea that the book is attempting to be edgy, but that's not really the case at all. I would only consider it hardcore in comparison to other, more 'flowery' self help books. There is some language the incredibly innocent might find offensive, but really nothing bad to most people, probably.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is such a good listen. You'll take so much away from it, yes it didn't fix me straight away but I had lots of armour to help me with my battle.

Straight to the point

Robert tells it as it is and suggests some very obvious coping mechanisms that might be so obvious if you are in the thick of it. I thought the last 1/4 was weaker but that’s only because I didn’t need to hear that bit. Overall though a thoroughly recommended book if either you or someone you know is suffering from this crippling condition. Robert - you definitely helped.

Because I don't have depression, right?

Gave me a totally different perspective on procrastination and guilt. The audible format was great as I couldn't skip sections or decide I didn't need it. It made me curious about the way I think and how it can defeat me.
