not too shabby

What's with the clicking sound during the meditation? Otherwise the rest of the book is really good!

It's ok. But not awesome.

I like the author who's also the reader. I think this book is geared towards the younger generation. I bought the book because of the title but I was expecting a little bit more than I got. I think it's a great read if this is the first time you are reading about anxiety.

Waste of time

Although the author does a very good job of narrating his book and his ideas and it was entertaining to listen to the subject matter is pointless and I got absolutely nothing from this. I would not recommend this to anyone

I Am Not Offended By Offensive Language...

when it is used with effect, but this is gratuitous and stupid. The author tries to make up for the very ordinary approach to anxiety treatment (nothing new here) with "talking like a normal person" ("normal" if you use empty vulgarity every other word) and trying to seem hip and cool and identifiable. (The tone pretty much runs like this: "You don't need some egghead telling you about those fancy neurotransmitters when I can make it seem much more relatable by referring to your brain as a "douche."--Please!) It's not so much anxiety as the reader here that ends up feeling....well,,,

Reads more like a business card

Had good expectations for this. It’s funny and a few nice lines here and there, but overall there’s no substance here. Sorry. I might look into the dr’s other stuff. But I was hoping for more here.

Liked the book until he diminished OCPD

I generally liked his take on self help but I think he may lack some experience in actually dealing with patients.
He started diminishing OCPD by saying that it's just someone who is "finicky" where as OCD is different and is a serious disorder that is a legitimate cause of anxiety.
Coming from someone who has suffered from OCPD for decades, I can tell you the anxiety that arises from someone moving things around in your room, or from being super late to finish a task or email because it's not "right" yet, is very real and debilitating sometimes. To the point where I need to take an Ativan to stop obsessing over my thoughts. OCPD is as real as a disorder as OCD, they are just different from each other. At least he got that right.

Like author's every day average Joe style

I like the authors general use of language, not a bunch of garbage terms no one but professionals would understand.

Tired of the same old Bullshit? DUFF IS THE BEST!!!

I understand that we all struggle with our own things. For myself, Duff made since, kept me interested, not bored, left skipping to the next chapter to see if that would be more about me, I think I related to every chapter in one way or another. I am also stoked to...”Do the work!!!” I would be scheduling an appointment with Robert. Because I have shopped around and the big problem is that I always get a different diagnosis!! Makes it kinda hard not to try to self diagnose. But I’m not gonna do that . Wish me luck! And to all of you, suffering from and anxiety disorder and are looking for something more... this is it!!! Thanks Robert!!!

SUPER funny AND really helpful too!

I accidentally purchased this book on anxiety (I meant to buy his book on depression) and HOLY COW! Perfect easy listen that ACTUALLY HELPS with practical things to try in my life, that I can actually begin to do.

I'm so glad I took the time to listen! It brought me many LOL moments (which was good medicine right there alone!) and also I've already used a could of the techniques without even having to do much work. Easy start to climbing out of the pit of anxiety and depression.
THANKS, Duff the psych! Really helpful! Life changing, I'd say!

Don't really rate this.

The narrator / authors delivery was good and the start of this book made me giggle a bit but from there it just got a bit boring. I don't know what I was expecting, I guess a book to drag me out the anxiety I've been feeling.. And to maybe pull me out of it a bit. But it didn't meet my expectations and it let me feeling a bit low. Wouldn't recommend this book. It doesn't even tell you anything you don't already know. Much better books out there. Shame.

Not for someone over 30 years old

Would you try another book written by Robert Duff or narrated by Robert Duff?

No

Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Duff again?

No

Would you be willing to try another one of Robert Duff’s performances?

No

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment that I used one of my Audible credits to listen to swearing and slang that was too "young minded" for my 54 year old brain. There was a bit of good information here but it wasn't presented in a way that I could relate to.

Exactly what I need

Not many - in fact, not enough, trained mental health experts talk to a sufferer the way the sufferer will sit up, pay attention and truly believe that they can make it through this poop they live with. I really appreciate your approach Robert and I am about to listen to your book about Depression.

Love his no bullsh*t approach

Great book.....ideal for understanding a little more about anxiety. Very funny book and really enjoyed listening on the way to work!
I would have preferred a few more practical solutions though and as a Brit I find the American- isms a bit.........cringe.

Overall very good for those who dislike the god squad /mumbo jumbo 'the secret' crap!

Good but too short.

Enjoyed this but felt it was too broad and could have gone into more detail in places. Liked the tone and general idea of a less touchy feely book on anxiety.

Can't praise it enough! Down-to-earth life saver!

I've suffered from long term PTSD, Generalised Anxiety and Social Anxiety for years and have only recently had the balls to admit it, get help and try to claw my way out. Duff made me feel so comfortable and at ease whilst he was explaining exactly how my mind and body works; I didn't feel so "alone" in it anymore with his encouragement (not just that wishy washy inspirational quotes crap). It felt like talking to a very understanding, relatable friend (who really knows their stuff too of course); rather than the kind of stuff you usually get with self help books that tends to feel a bit too much like you're listening to a professor who's only studied the concepts, but never actually felt what you're going through. The breathing and relaxation technique at the end has been amazing for me and I have already used it twice to help me get out of panic attack state. It's not oberwhelmingly in-depth (which I liked), but it's definitely a great place to start for anyone struggling to make that first step like I was. I'm also suffering from Depression and depersonalisation, so have already purchased his "Fuck Depression" audiobook too and I'll also be getting anything else he's done that would help fix my bitch of a brain. I never thought it was possible to look forward to "therapy", but I just want to be myself again and this helped me go in a direction I thought had ceased to exist anymore. Thank you so much Duff! (If you read these) You're awesome man! :')

Enjoyable.

In terms of anxiety management information I don't think there is much that is new or particularly groundbreaking here, however, the standout feature is the delivery. The content is delivered with enthusiasm, humour and sincerity. Although the authors style certainly won't be everyone's cup of tea, it resonated with me, I felt it was fresh and even inspiring...it felt like a conversion with a good friend. For me, this is a keeper and an audio book that I will revisit again.

Funny and entertaining read about a boring subject

We're all totally bored about our anxiety right? This book makes it interesting and you feel ok about your condition. I recommend this book to anyone suffering from anxiety, or Frank as the author calls his. The narrator/author/Dr is easy to listen to, understands and normalises anxiety. I felt like I was part of wider community reading this book, instead of alone with the miserable physiological and psychological symptoms of anxiety. The simple breathing exercise has made a world of difference and I feel a lot better. I will listen to this again and again.

Good information well delivered, but lacking depth

I have mixed feeling about this audio book. On the plus side its conversationalist style is easy to listen to and engaging. As well, some of the things covered are very useful, such as CBT, 4-7-8 breathing (pranayama relaxation breath), and the letter to write to someone who doesn't understand anxiety. But I found these topics were not given any depth, and as such are really just a primer on things to try to help deal with anxiety. The 4-7-8 breath for example, was 'dumbed down'. Suggest the listener search for "pranayama breathing" for more detailed information. I wanted the CBT section to go into more depth and practice as well.

Overall, it is a good book only to introduce the listener to some techniques for addressing anxiety, but it falls short due to a lack of depth in any area. But then, it is only an hour and a half in length, so I guess it did meet my expectations somewhat.

Direct, Sensitive and Funny

Dr Robert Duff has this uncanny ability to take what has usually been surrounded in mystery, fear and shame and turn it into something informative, empowering and at times hilarious. I recommend this book to anyone - whether you are having mental health struggles of your own, or maybe you care about someone who is living this truth. 10/10 you will reach a new perspective listening to this series.
