Publisher's Summary

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Master your brain and emotions to overcome anxiety, depression, and negative thoughts.

Most of us are trapped in a roller-coaster of "automatic" thoughts, emotions, and actions. Try as hard as we might, when we see certain people or heard certain things, we get emotional. These intense emotions then trigger us to say certain things out of habit. We also often feel pushed to act a certain way. This all plays out so quickly we feel we really have no control about it. Very much like being on a roller coaster. Might as well just brace yourself for the ride, right? After all, it’s too easy to conclude that your "automatic" reactions of fear, anxiety, depression, or anger are simply part of "who you are as a person"!

Well, you don’t have to keep making the same wrong decisions over and over again. You don’t have to be miserable, powerless, or small. You don’t have to keep defining yourself as a person who doesn’t have much power over your life and your world. What if I told you that you can get off the careening roller coaster that is your life? What if you can put an end to negative emotional reactions that consistently and constantly put you in a bad spot?

The answer? Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is a one of the most respected, thoroughly tested, and vetted psychiatric counseling systems in existence. Countless people have been liberated from personal prisons of helplessness, powerlessness, failure, anxiety, depression, and compulsive behaviors. Best of all, CBT doesn’t necessarily involve mind altering medication, hypnosis, or electro shock therapy. Instead, CBT works with a very basic premise: Whatever negative thoughts, psychology, verbal and habitual behavioral patterns you have are products of how you choose to interpret situations. These interpretations, in turn, are products of certain "truths" you choose to believe.

CBT zeroes in on the central fact that you have a lot of choice in how your life plays out. By simply choosing to think in a different way and interpret certain experiences differently, you can produce a massive positive change in your life. You no longer have to feel like certain negative mental and emotional states are natural and "automatic" responses to certain triggers in your life.

This workbook teaches you key Cognitive Behavioral Therapy principles that will enable you to become a happier, more fulfilled, more effective, and more content person. Stop thinking that your world is spiraling out of control or you don’t have control over your life. This guide teaches simple clear techniques that will enable you to start living life to the fullest.

Good self help audiobook

I really enjoyed the approach this book takes. It encourages you to go through slowly, one chapter per week, doing the exercises and really thinking about how you feel and why you feel that way. The book encourages you to change aspects of your thinking and your behavior by suggesting alternative ways of being. A lot of the material proved to be an eye opener for me. It is essential that the listener takes the time to write down their thoughts as requested throughout the book.you will learn a lot.

Easily organized, and easily understood

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that is helpful to those with anxiety, depression, and even some phobias. CBT starts by “reprogramming” how you think by isolating how you got to the specific thoughts that trigger negativity. Being able to trace your thoughts, and figure out why you’re thinking the way you are, and where each thought comes from can be helpful towards discontinuing such negative thoughts. Many people experience these overwhelming negative thoughts because of intrusive thoughts. The book has outlined a practical approach in applying CBT techniques, and getting the most from this practiced concept. For someone who lives with anxiety and PTSD, I have had much experience with practicing CBT. This book is organized well, and gets the point across in a very direct way. Easily organized, and easily understood, I enjoyed listening this book, and find that it makes a great tool for almost anyone. I give this book 5/5.

10 out of 10

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. It is very readable and makes so much sense to me. I hope I don't sound dramatic, but this book changed my life. The authors are well versed on the subject and are able to explain CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to us newbies. I'm actually studying Clinical Psychology and I feel that this book has not only helped me, but it will help me to help my clients when I get to work in a few years.

Exactly what I expected

Although I haven't completed this book yet I have found the first few chapters very helpful. After suffering from a sudden tragedy I have been faced with anxiety issues that I am trying to work through without using medicine. This book really helps to get a handle on things and points out issues that I am dealing with and how to conquer them. It also brought to the surface certain feelings that I am having that are common of anxiety sufferers, but that I didn't realize were a symptom of my anxiety. Overall a great purchase and worth the money!

Good Basics of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

This book is arguably the best self-help book available for anyone suffering from depression. It presents the basics of congitive therapy in a format that the average person can use. CBT therapy and the overwhelming scientific evidence for its effectiveness are described in the first few chapters. Later in the book, individual issues, many of which may be experienced by the reader, are discussed in depth to give the reader new ways to consider these issues as they use thought records to help themselves. These methods are quite logical and effective once you read and do the homework.

Easy to follow and helped tremendously!

After being in a cognitive therapy program that focuses on CBT Therapy, this audio book is a great refresher to help after you leave. I had a more critical case of anxiety and depression which required a more inpatient treatment. After I left, I struggled to keep up with the daily activities that I needed to do. This book was great to help me keep on track. I highly recommend if you can't go to into a program but want to learn the same information.

A great in-depth explanation.

I'd like to start off my review by saying that I have received excellent and not-so-excellent therapy before. I judge books and workbooks in this style by seeing if they measure up to the excellent therapy in my own history. I am pleased to say that this book delivers! I'm very fond of CBT work and found this book very helpful, sound, and still quite approachable. This is a great resource.

CBT - Informative, interesting and easy listen!

This book was really inspiring and motivating. It provides simple and easy to understand instructions that can improve your life and mental status such as learning to control your thoughts or circumstances and not letting them overpower you. It was evident that the author did extensive research and along with his former sufferings of anxiety and depression, he was able to put together this power read. This would be beneficial to anyone that would like an insight on the CBT process, as well as, better mental health.

Educational and interesting

This book really digs into psychological development to provide a deep understanding of different types of Cognitive Behavioral therapies and how it is useful in treating conditions like anxiety. It is clear that author has a background in psychology and knows what he is talking about. Even as an informative book it is easy to understand for someone without any knowledge pf psychology.
