Publisher's summary

A Harvard physician’s scientifically proven method to improve your physical and mental health by optimizing your hormones in your 30s, 40s, and beyond....

Dr. Sara Gottfried refuses to accept the traditional medical thinking that feeling cranky, asexual, tapped out, and sleep-deprived is just part of being female and aging, and that prescription medication will fix all problems. Offering solutions in nonjudgmental and thoughtful language, Dr. Gottfried provides a novel plan based on solid scientific research. She believes you don’t find a cure at the bottom of a pill bottle. A specialist in functional and integrative therapies, Dr. Gottfried bases her three-step treatment strategy on 10 years’ study of cutting-edge techniques and ancient treatments validated by current medical research. The plan includes supplements and targeted lifestyle changes that address underlying deficiencies, herbal therapies, and bio-identical hormones—most available without a prescription.

Easy to understand and highly illuminating, The Hormone Cure demonstrates how balancing your hormones can actually cure underlying health issues, alleviate symptoms, and give women a life of increased energy, sensuality, and resilience.

The Hormone Cure is a breakthrough hormone guide—entertaining, persuasive, hilarious. I’ve not seen this content anywhere! Get to the root of your issues: low energy, fatigue, low sex drive, anxiety, weight gain. This book is gold.” (Marci Shimoff, New York Times best-selling author of Love for No Reason)

“Never before have I read a book and shouted, ‘Oh my God, that’s ME!’ Managing hormones is the most important issue of women my age. I don’t just want to read Sara Gottfried, I want her to be my doctor, my friend, and my sister.” (Ayelet Waldman, New York Times best-selling author of Red Hook Road)

“A magnificent book! Every woman needs to read it, and every doctor.” (Louann Brizendine, MD, New York Times best-selling author of The Male Brain)

Terrible Reader

This reader is way to harsh for this book. I can barely stand to listen to her. This book should have been read by the author or someone who at least sounds like they identify with the subject matter.

The information in this book is extremely powerful

The information in this book is a refreshing deep dive into hormones, and the supplements and practices that have been tested and proven to balance hormonal issues. So much of western medicine doesn’t even address hormones and their influence on a person’s day-to-day experience - hormones seem to only be considered when trying to conceive. I really appreciated the actionable and vetted resources and have already started implementing some of the changes suggested in this book… and seeing positive results!

I’d highly recommend getting a paper copy of this book so you can use it as a manual rather than listening to an audiobook of the content.

Helpful in navigating hormone issues

I found this book helpful in navigating and understanding female hormones and possible issues. It was enlightening to read about things I should discuss with my doctor and that there are solutions out there!

Excellent content, but narrator made it truly difficult.

I recommend listening to this at high speed to get the overview and a print copy to do the detailed work.

Excellent content - everyone needs to learn!

I've been a nurse for 40 years but learned so many things from this book that isn't taught in nursing or medical schools. Medical providers instill fear of all things hormonal in their patients, but have no problem ordering SSRIs, staring therapy, and more as treatments for the effects of hormonal imbalances. Women need to pay attention and learn this so they can advocate for themselves. there are risks with everything, but I'd rather take my chances with properly leveling my hormones instead of just adding more drugs to bury the symptoms... and increase the overall risk profile.

Narrator was ok for the most part, but I heard several mispronounced words throughout that possibly weren't noticable to nonmedical folk. But I expect better of a professional.

Good content but difficult to navigate chapters

What did you like best about The Hormone Cure? What did you like least?

The information and the recommendations in the book are valuable. The author gives a lot of recommendations on how to naturally balance your hormones.Shortfalls: It is not the book but it is a shortcoming of audible. The chapter names in the book does not match the chapter numbers in audible. It is a big shortcoming because I cannot navigate. Also, there is a huge appendix section with useful information but it is not included in the pdf in audible. Where can I get the appendix?

Would you listen to another book narrated by Tara Hugo?

The narrator is good, has a nice voice.

Could you see The Hormone Cure being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

TV show with Dr. Sara Gottfried giving advice would be helpful.

Any additional comments?

Audible: Name the chapter titles please! and include the appendix in pdf!

I'm a Guy and I still loved this book!

I'm really into studying aging. I have a blog called www.reversingmyage.com. Even though I am male, I loved this book and much of it was still applicable.

I wish there were a version for men!

Great Book and info, but horrible narration

What did you love best about The Hormone Cure?

Loved the very detailed presentation. Information was well presented, but can be a bit confusing if you do not have a experience with medical or scientific material.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Great important info. Maybe author should drop the cutesy, popular, teenage lingo. Sounds like she's trying too hard. We get it already, and we are over 35.....

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tara Hugo?

anyone...she's horrid. I barely could get through the book. She mispronounced many things. Her reading rhythm/meter was off for the type of material. She sounded like she was acting out Shakespeare when she was talking about simple things like the thyroid dysfunction, etc. Lets not even mention any verbiage about sex.....ewww, her emphatic, sexy voicings made my flesh crawl. Get the hard copy of this. There are too many pieces of data that one misses listening to it being read. Then there is content referencing to the PDF, etc.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no.
