Publisher's summary

In this revolutionary weight-loss program informed by more than 1,200 scientific studies, fitness and diet expert Jonathan Bailor offers concrete evidence that the calorie-counting model of weight loss doesn't work. In fact, cutting-edge science supports a radically different approach to weight loss and health, proving that by focusing on food and exercise quality - rather than calorie quantity - you can burn fat and boost health more easily and enjoyably that you ever thought possible.

The human body does not recognize all calories as equal. Some foods are used to repair tissue, boost brain power, and fuel our metabolism - while others are stored as fat. In The Calorie Myth, Bailor shows us how eating more of the right kinds of foods and exercising less, but at a higher intensity, is the true formula for burning fat.

Why? Because eating high-quality foods - like whole plants and nutritious proteins - balances the hormones that regulate our metabolism. When we eat these foods, our bodies naturally maintain a healthy weight. But when we eat sugar, starches, processed fats, and other poor quality foods, the body's regulatory system becomes "clogged" and prevents us from burning extra calories. Translation: Those extra 10 pounds aren't the result of eating too much...they're the result from eating the wrong foods.

In The Calorie Myth, Bailor offers clear, comprehensive guidance on what to eat and why, providing an eating plan, recipes, and a simple yet effective exercise regimen based on the principles of high intensity interval training. Losing weight doesn't have to mean going hungry or spending hours at the gym. The Calorie Myth offers a radical new model for weight loss and long-term health.

go to his website, for the love of God

Good overall prescription for eating and I buy the overall premise of lowering an internal weight setpoint via healthy eating, but it seems like he skimmed over some of the more important connections namely how exactly does eating/exercising like this fix our hormones exactly?

At the same time a small amount of info was watered down heavily to lengthen the book so he could have a few more words between each time he mentions his website....which tries to get you to go to a "masterclass" no doubt a seminar for selling you shit...

I'm conflicted, he gives a great performance, obviously enthusiastic, and some useful info I'm already using, and just don't forget to go to his website.

did you go to the website?

if not, he has a website, go to it, website, website, website, website, website, website.

I am gonna take a star off from my original rating cause I'm realizing I'm traumatized by how many times he mentioned his damn website.

website.com/website

go to it now.

Sales pitch...

There is some valuable data... but this is a sales pitch pure and simple. Just a partial teaser to try and pressure you into paying for their proprietary supplements, programs, and and consults. Lots of fluff interspersed with the occasional fact. Facts are always backed up by science... loudly... except when they’re not.

Love the message, but the solution is half-baked.

With all the cutting-edge nutrition research supporting a low carb high fat moderate protein diet, I'm not sure why he chose to make up an "overdose yourself with protein" diet. Disappointing read.

I loved it

This is the only source that changed my lifestyle. I enjoyed listening to it, and it feels like training with proper engagement. It is heavily based on evidence with facts and figures from Harvard Medical school etc. I recommend this to all my friends and family in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere.

Couldn't finish listening

The content in this book may be great, but I wouldn't know because I could not stand to listen to Jonathan Bailor read any longer. He doesn't read this book as if he's educating you- he reads it with emphasis and urgency throughout. I can understand emphasis and urgency when your making a point, but not for the entire thing. I wish I would have bought the actual book....

Great information, should have hired a narrator.

Great information. The flattest narration makes it SO hard to listen to! Tried to listen, found myself unable to pay attention. Returned

Excellent information but...

The information contained in this book has the potential to change the obesity epidemic in America. Excellent research based information.
The reading is so slow it is difficult to listen to. I sped up the timing to .25x or .5x. At that speed it is more tolerable but can sound funny and information can be missed. The producers should have hired a professional voice to read.
