Publisher's Summary

The best-selling book on heart disease, updated with the latest research and clinical findings on high-fat/ketogenic diets, sugar, genetics, and other factors.

Heart disease is the number-one killer. However, traditional heart disease protocols - with their emphasis on lowering cholesterol - have it all wrong. Emerging science is showing that cholesterol levels are a poor predictor of heart disease and that standard prescriptions for lowering it, such as ineffective low-fat/high-carb diets and serious, side-effect-causing statin drugs, obscure the real causes of heart disease. Even doctors at leading institutions have been misled for years based on creative reporting of research results from pharmaceutical companies intent on supporting the $31-billion-a-year cholesterol-lowering drug industry.

The Great Cholesterol Myth reveals the real culprits of heart disease, including inflammation, fibrinogen, triglycerides, homocysteine, belly fat, triglyceride to HDL ratios, and high glycemic levels.

Superb information

My Doctor insists I take a statin! After reading “listening” and plugging in my most recent blood work numbers to their % formulas, I’m good! And loving my bacon and eggs more and more!

Life Changing and Perception Altering Book.

It was not just about statin drugs or cholesterol, the chapters were broken down perfectly and it was engaging, entertaining and most importantly informational. It will make you questions your lifestyle and diet choices, the information you have been given about these choices. Forces you to educate yourself about your conditions, treatments available, tests to take, diet and supplement recommendations and challenging your doctor's rigid and preconceived notions, that don't allow them to think outside of the box and may allow them to dismiss your concerns or your education on your ailments and options. It gives insight into misleading studies and the big business of Big Pharma and other actors in the medical industry. This is a book you should read, all your friends and family should read, it will pertain to everyone in some capacity and make you a more informed patient/consumer. I will buy the book, but the audible version was fantastic. Cannot recommend this book enough.

very informative

Well read and packed with useful information for anyone interested in maintaining good health. I am not surpised at how little most MDs know as the are educated and owned by Big Pharma and Big Food.

Be your own health advocate and find an integrative doctor who is up to speed abd an independent critical thinker.

Best Book I've read on Why NOT to take a Station

If your HDL is over 100 and your LDL is over 200 Dr's will keep trying to get you to take a station. I have been wrestling with this problem since I turned 50 ( I am now 82 ) and don't drink or smoke and I am in good health for my age and I still refuse to take a Statin and now I have some medical knowledge to back up my gut feeling

Written by a medical Doctor and a PhD, this book is chock full of info about what tests to take and what various studies have proved and proves that we have come a long way since Ansel Keyes did his research back in the '70s ! This book explains it all and is interesting to boot I am so happy I stumbled upon it and recommend it highly. I will add it to my growing body of reference material about Statins.

A must read/listen if you’re concerned about your health!

This book reveals the important role cholesterol has on our health, and debunks the rhetoric. I feel so much better knowing what I’ve learned.

My review would not be complete if I didn’t express my great appreciation for the humorous tone of the book, AND the person who read it should win an Oscar! Great, engaging, and thoroughly enjoyable performance.

Simple Eye Opening

Very informative, doesn't over-explain, and gives clear advice on what to do and what not to do; all in an evidenced-based package. Highly recommended to anyone, healthcare professional or not, to improve their heart health.

Excellent but amusingly hypocritical

Great book and I agree with all the content and message. They rightly criticise the pharma industry’s approach to statistics using relative rather than absolute improvements. Then they go on to do exactly the same thing themselves for the rest of the book! Not a problem as I understand what they mean but it kept me amused!
