Publisher's summary

Most men settle for a cookie-cutter life. This audiobook is not for most men.

We live in a cushy, modern world with more possibilities than ever before. So why do most men settle for lackluster, cookie-cutter lives that leave them feeling stuck, drained, and uninspired?

This Book Will Make You Dangerous is a guide for the rare, few men who refuse to sleepwalk through life.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Challenge your fears so that you don’t become another guy who gave up on his potential
  • Align your life with meaning so that you can create success on your own terms
  • Find clarity and direction so that you don’t waste your days stuck in a rut

Distilled from thousands of hours spent coaching forward-thinking-men all around the world, this audiobook will teach you how to galvanize your mindset and see opportunities instead of walls.

While others blindly follow the herd, you’ll learn how to tap into your own unique sense of leadership and overcome your biggest challenges in every area of life - including your work, your relationships, and your health.

If you’re tired of the rat race...

If you’re wary of bulls--t artists trying to sell you “happily ever after”...

If you want to make sure you don’t become another grumpy, soft guy who forgot how to have fun...

Then this audiobook will, indeed, make you dangerous.

A New Man

I recently rediscovered the New Man podcast. I had forgotten the role it played in my personal growth. I was stoked to find out about this book that really cultivates a lot of the take always from the podcast. This book will remain on my journey along side The War on Art by Steven Pressfield

Funny, relatable & important. An invaluable resource for anyone trying to get out of their own way!

Tripp is a leader in the modern sense. He’s captured ideas here that frame non-toxic masculinity very precisely. By doing so he’s published a call to action. It asks us (as husbands, sons, brothers, fathers and human beings) to bring more of ourselves to the world. The book has drawn on inputs from groundbreaking thought-leaders like Phil Stutz, Barry Michels and Mark Manson. In that way it’s a manual on how we can become the person we’ve always hoped to be. At the same time it strips away the noise surrounding why it is that we want to become that person in the first place.

Succint guide to becoming a better man

I think the tittle could have been "This book will make you wake up and pay attention", but i doubt that would sell many copies. However, in the world with overblown promises and small deliveries, this practical guide to becoming a better version of yourself is a refreshing change. It is narrated by the author himself, so that you can feel the passion and emotion associated with, often personal, experiences in the book. I am glad i have listened to the audio first, so i can go back to the book and work through the practices and challenges that Trip talks about. The biggest takeaway for me is that often we need to get out of our own way to achieve whatever we deem to be success in life. And the hardest critic we will ever face is that voice inside our head that is great at making excuses and stopping us from getting the life we want.

This book opened my eyes

This book was awesome... everything in the first chapter resonated so much I was hooked from there on out.

I've read a lot of personal development but this was a new and fresh angle and way of looking at things.

I'm going back in for a second listen.

I even reached out to the author with a question about the content and he responded within a few hours!

Thanks Tripp!

Some good takeaways

Definitely a worthwhile listen. The author did warn that he wrote the book as if he were talking to his usual male clients. If that’s how he needs to communicate with the average male, then that’s concerning. Too dumbed down with vulgar language. Funny at times, but not necessary.

A Different Kind Of "Self-Development" Book

I like non-fiction books and many of the audiobooks I listen to could be considered "self-development." Like a self-development book, This Book Will Make You Dangerous will a better person if you listen to it, but it's not like the "blow hot smoke" self-help rah-rah that you'll get at a personal development event – it's a guide that will show you a different way of looking at life and how to make your life better.

If you like Tripp Lanier's podcast, The New Man, you will like this audiobook. It has the same wit and delivery as you get from his podcast. Like the title says, it's "irreverent," but that doesn't mean it's offensive or juvenile – it's simply not the typical "everything is great" and "you have greatness within you" self-help BS that you see 90% of the time. Every IS great, and that will be obvious when you listen to this audiobook, but Tripp isn't going to sugarcoat it just to play nice and be liked. If you like The New Man podcast, you know what I mean.

I recommend this audiobook for people, especially men, who want to next level of personal development, but I also think women will get a lot out of it also, even if it's just to better understand the men in your life.

If you're ready to move beyond the "you have greatness within you" gurus who make you feel good for an hour, but don't give you anything to hold on to that will really change your life for the better, you will like this audiobook. And you will definitely walk away with something to hold on to that will allow you to create a better life for yourself.

Disappointed

A friend I admire greatly recommended this book. I can see how it resonated with him. For me, it was all fluff you could sum up in four words. Have fun, take risks. A lot of it is typical coach speak with ridiculous anecdotes like a food fight leading to love. The author is a great narrator though.
