Up to 40% of people consider themselves shy. You might say you're introverted or awkward, or that you're fine around friends but just can't speak up in a meeting or at a party. Maybe you're usually confident but have recently moved or started a new job, only to feel isolated and unsure. If you get nervous in social situations - meeting your partner's friends, public speaking, standing awkwardly in the elevator with your boss - you've probably been told, "Just be yourself!" But that's easier said than done - especially if you're prone to social anxiety.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

THE. BEST. BOOK. ON. SELF. CONFIDENCE. EVER.
I am about 3/4 through this book and I am completely and utterly blown away by how insightful this author is. I have read many books books on this topic, but they were either horribly written, boring, lacked action steps, irrelevant to me, or were filled with filler. In contrast, this book is a big, thick, lean, juicy rib roast of amazing, extremely actionable content. Most importantly, the author gets it because he once suffered from very low self confidence and has since slain the Dragon. Okay. there is one thing I don't like... I feel an urge stop the audio every 5 minutes to not down notes. Therefore, I bought the paperback so I can write it. Do yourself a huge favor and buy this book for yourself or for someone who you feel suffers from low confidence or low self-esteem.

Mostly regurgitation
Not bad, but mostly just the same generic info as a lot of other “coaches”. The main advice given throughout is “You fear X? Then you just need to do X.” Not overwhelmingly bright. It claimed to give specific strategies/tactics, but he keeps repeating the same advice, just in a different context.

Ehh.. not for me
So far this book has been written for people who are passive not assertive or perhaps in my case sometimes aggressive. Every chapter falls back on you being awesome and that you should have the courage and self esteem to have confidence. To me that is not confidence. I wanted a book on standing tall, wait to speak last, don’t apologize etc. to help improve my anxiety I feel after decision making and skills in sales and customer service. Not for me, if you have very low self esteem, maybe but so far I don’t know anyone this will be useful for personally.

Finally! This book really is life changing!
I've read a lot of books about motivation, self development and trying to 'fix' whatever isn't working in your life. Most of them spend 90% trying to help you figure out why you might have whatever issues you have, and 10% giving any actionable solution. This book is 100% about giving you real, usable tools to make the changes in your life. This book actually got me off my @$$ and into real action. I feel better than I have in years and am so thankful to Dr. Aziz. This isn't a quick fix that will fizzle out once the novelty wears off either......it creates real, lasting change. I hope that anyone struggling with anything in their life will read/listen to this book. It's my new 'users manual' for my life!
And on a side note, Dr. Aziz is very pleasant to listen to....he reads this book like a friend just having a conversation with you.

This Book, Quite Literally, "Changed My Life"
Yes, I know it's a huge cliche, but let me tell you that from my point of view it's completely true. I have read a number of books about self confidence, how to talk to and communicate with people effectively as well as how to cultivate a cast iron "can do" attitude to love and life, and whilst they all shared fundamental truths and values, this book probably had the biggest impact on my outlook and ultimately where I am today.
I have had a two year transformation from an overweight, internet obsessed, video game nerd, lonely, hugely introverted, massively unhappy and generally negative to someone who leads and inspires groups of people from all walks of life. When someone comes up to me and tells me how much I have inspired them by my positivity, confidence and personal warmth, it still blows me away. This book and especially Dr Aziz have my complete respect and thanks for showing me how to make this possible.

Good
It was nice to listen to this book
The performance is brilliant
There is some good ideas and stories
But it doesn’t give you the feeling of satisfaction at the end
As if you are spent a great time enjoying the introduction and the small talks and the preparation after asking a big question and the conversation ended up with you still waiting for the real answer

Dr Aziz, I wished I come across you years ago, I'd struggled with allowing myself to become myself again due to having toxic people around me including toxic relationships, I've let many years go by doubting myself and being scared to become the person I should be.
Your books have woke me up , I repeat listening to them and now I've started to put it into practice.
still have the fear feelings but now I let myself feel it, instead of pushing it deep down . Thank you

Mind blowing.
I wish i had read this book when i was younger. Dr Aziz debunks some of the most toxic and common misconception we hold about social behaviours and communication. The book is simple to understand full of examples and comparisons. The narration is enjoyably smooth and the tone is relaxed and empathetic as you feel in a real conversation with a friend. The best self help book i ever listened.

Boring, but it might help beginners.
As a disclaimer, I need to say that I'm not particularly lacking in confidence - I got this book because a couple of areas of my life needed attention, and as such I believed this book would help me. I was wrong but it may benefit someone else more.
I'm currently halfway through, and all I've gleaned thus far is that I need to take risks -- well No Shit Sherlock.
Do I waste any more time on this? I don't think so - I need to be stimulated, not sent to sleep with stuff you can pick up for free on Youtube.

beautiful book!!
I loved this audiobook!! so inspiring. Also, it's read by the author, great performance. It's the kind of book that one feels sad when it's finished.

Waste of Money
He talks about not being a nice person, saying he will help his girlfriend move then leaving her high and dry on the day because he decided he didn't feel it was right. Talk about deciding to ignore the impact of behaviour. Very disappointing, didn't bother to finish it.

Extremely Helpful, Likeable, Down to Earth
If you could sum up The Art of Extraordinary Confidence in three words, what would they be?
Helpful, Likeable, Realistic
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Art of Extraordinary Confidence?
Whenever the author dispels other "Self Help" BS, and is just realistic. e.g. Other self-help says, "Just perceive the situation in a different way, just perceive/think the problems away" but he says We're not robots... it probably is really scary... embrace the awkward, painful, accept it. etc. I like how one of his approaches to confidence comes from recognising one's humanity, and everyone else's humanity.
Which character – as performed by Dr. Aziz Gazipura – was your favourite?
He jokes around a bit. He's just being himself, and confidently amuses himself. Good example.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
He's really likeable guy. His voice sounds soothing, comfortable, natural. Pleasant to listen to; Unlike those other weird, stilted readings that sound really fake. Great content. Humorous, not dry and dull to listen to. Even though he's a psychologist, he doesn't have to go into all the technical brain science which I'm tired of hearing from other self help books (almost all of them somehow end up talking about the Amygdala, Pre-Frontal Cortex, the Kids in the Cookie/Marsh-Mellow Test) He's practical. Even though he's a psychologist that helps people to understand their problems, he knows that understanding the problem alone doesn't help your improve. Unlike other motivational books writers whose approach is just pumping you up with positivity, Aziz's approach is more enduring and practical and real.

Another classic for the top shelf
The fact that Dr Aziz has been through a lot of his own personal suffering but is now passing on his decades of learnings and experience to people struggling with confidence issues makes this book one that is hard to put down (so to speak). I’ve bought all his books and love them.

This book is a beautiful journey into the tools of confidence. The author allows himself to be vulnerable and share parts of his life and thoughts with the listener. It easy listening with layers of insight. Will listen again!!
