Publisher's Summary

Cybernetics (loosely translated from the Greek): "a helmsman who steers his ship to port". Psycho-cybernetics is a term coined by Dr. Maxwell Maltz that means "steering your mind to a productive, useful goal so you can reach the greatest port in the world: peace of mind".

Since its first publication in 1960, Maltz's landmark best seller has inspired and enhanced the lives of more than 30 million readers. In this updated edition, with a new introduction and editorial commentary by Matt Furey, president of the Psycho-Cybernetics Foundation, the original text has been annotated and amplified to make Maltz's message even more relevant for the contemporary audience.

"Before the mind can work efficiently, we must develop our perception of the outcomes we expect to reach. Maxwell Maltz calls this Psycho-Cybernetics; when the mind has a defined target it can focus and direct and refocus and redirect until it reaches its intended goal." (Tony Robbins, from Unlimited Power)

Maltz was the first researcher and author to explain how the self-image (a term he popularized) has complete control over an individual's ability to achieve (or failure to achieve) any goal. And he developed techniques for improving and managing self-image - visualization, mental rehearsal, relaxation - that have informed and inspired countless motivational gurus, sports psychologists, and self-help practitioners for more than 50 years.

The teachings of psycho-cybernetics are timeless because they are based on solid science and provide a prescription for thinking and acting that lead to quantifiable results.

A Must Read!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Listen to this book at 1.25 speed for his normal speaking voice.

This book is incredibly fascinating. Humans are easily programmed but most of us in the civilized world were being bombarded from birth and became programmed by many external forces. Television time slots are literally called "programming"

How funny is that? Imagine having a civilization full of robots and you design the way they think.

The thoughts and techniques in this book will give you an actionable game plan to program yourself

I would also recommend looking into mindfulness meditation. Headspace.com is a good start. You gain the ability to observe your thoughts instead of identifying with them. You can only "know" this feeling if you have experiential evidence so go try it for yourself. It will help you separate the oil & the water of your personality.

Look to the people you admire the most on the planet, the pieces of their personality are your reference material. Wishing you a full and beautiful life.

Best life improving book I have ever read

I read a lot of books (one a week) and this one is the absolute best book on how to actually improve your life that I have ever read. Far too often books are not able to live up to the claims they make but this one far outperforms in every way. Get this book, after you have read it you will be amazed at the very small price you paid for it, and probably be willing to have paid far more for the value you get out of it.

Use 1.25x as speed

The narrator is very slow talking. But at a higher speed it is perfectly fine.

The content is great and the sound quality is good.

The mother of everything self help

I'm not one to write reviews but psycho-cybernetics is such a good book that it deserves to be reviewed. The vast majority of self help books that post date psycho-cybernetics take the main principals from it. If you are considering getting this book you have to go for it I promise you will not regret it.

Life in it's truest form.

Since the first 3 chapters, this book changed the way I saw the world and the way I correlated it to my life; it changed my life, it changed me. It's something that can hardly be fully described with words, but I was able to find a side of me and of my life that I never even thought it existed; I found myself. It's as if someone came and told me, "this has been your life, this has been you, but, breaking news, it doesn't have to be that way."
This is a book that you read or listen, but which you LIVE and EXPERIENCE.
Having Matt Furey narrate it himself adds strong emotion and a profound, personal connection to the material that will reosund with any human being willing to learn how to live and function the way we're supposed to.

Life changing content, unfortunate packaging

This book will absolutely revolutionize your life for the better if you apply what it teaches. I love personal development books and this is definitely one of my favorites. A potential drawback is the way it’s written at times feels like its for a more academic audience rather than a feel good self esteem book. I love it but the style can be difficult for some to follow. Unfortunately the reader does very little to bring it to life, and they seem to have slowed down his voice by about 25%. Luckily there’s an option through the Audible app to speed it up. Fantastic material that deserves to be a little better executed in my opinion.

Ahead Of His Time

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Already have! This book answers so many questions.

What did you like best about this story?

If you know there is something to personal development, but have been put off by the hype and thanking the universe for stuff, this will help. The premise is so simple, but so profound.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

You can dip in and out, but it needs to be listened to more than once.

The way up call that you just need if you want to improve your self image

Hello, my name is Dan quay and I thought I give this audio book a quick review, whenever it comes audio books I'm always sceptic, Maxwell maltz, I had previously done research on physco-cybernetics, on you tube, it was about self image, so I had understanding about it,

The reason I wanted to read the book, it was recommended by Matt Lloyd, but I prefer the audio version because it saves time.

I enjoyed listening to this audio, great stories and his voice is a inspiration and could relate to a lot of the stories that, his voice is very soothing and relaxing which I found helpful, helping me sleep, for last few weeks I felt like I was in a hypnotic state, I know it cold outside and the cold makes me feel like that,

So if you feel you need a kick up the backside and push in the directionn you want to go,meaning forward then this book will help.

I now feel happy that I listened to this book, its weight of my shoulders, so if you want improved self image, buy this book now

Something for everyone

This book is principally about self image psychology. It’s interesting in parts and there are always small take-always in these type of books. I enjoyed it. However I had to listen to this in conjunction with an online summary as the author does digress slightly in places. Can be a bit confusing. Not too keen on references to religion, but they are few and far between. A sign really of when this book was written. On the whole, considering how old these theory’s are it still holds it own and I would still recommend it.

Must read for anybody interested in self-improvement

Essential read. Definitely get an audiobook and listen to it over and over. It takes time to understand all the discoveries contained in this book. Most of it relate easily to current times, yet it was written over half a century ago and some references in the book to earlier research refer to works created much earlier and they still apply more than ever (e.g. anxiety).
An eye opening gem.

A fantastic self help book for beginners

This was the very first self help book I've ever read. I was still at uni and I was looking for ways to improve my life and optimise my learning abilities. After a few pages it already surpassed all my expectations. Psycho-cybernetics set me on journey I'm still on today and I was very lucky to have found this book early on (it was completely random!).
Now after 10 years I'm revisiting it again. This time in English. And I'm absolutely baffled how much I've outgrew the book. I've been integrating the core premises for over 10 years now. To my surprise, it wasn't really "back to the basics" type of reread I was hoping for. It wasn't even "lets revisit the foundations" feel I thought I'd get. Rather, I was bored and often cringed on some of the more basic tenets of the book. Frankly, I was bit annoyed with my reaction to it. But I've listened to it till the end anyway. What I got from it this time was the perspective of how much I've evolved in the last 10 years; but also, the book reassured me that I'm still on the right path Maltz's ideas have put me on years ago. For that I'm eternally grateful. And I'll probably revisit the book again in some distant future...
Most recommended especially for beginners and all those who feel like they lost their way.

Would have been a great audio for boring narrator

It is a shame that I cannot bear to hear a classic work whether it be fiction or non-fiction because the narrator's voice is grating for one reason or another . This audio was boring due to the slow voice of the narrator Matt Furey ; it isn't his fault as that's how he narrates and he cannot do it any other way . What saved this audio from an even worse rating is technology ! Luckily I now have the ability to speed up the audio by 25% by using the audible app on my listening device and therefore listen to a great classic in the self help genre without getting too bored or falling asleep .
