About the Creator and Performer

Allison Friederichs is the president of ROI Training Solutions, which provides consulting, training, and speaking services in the areas of how the adult brain learns and professional communication skills. She earned her PhD in Communication Studies from the University of Denver. She is a former Associate Teaching Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Denver, University College, where she taught communications courses for more than 20yearsand earned the Master Teacher designation for continued professional development.
Allison works collaboratively with trainers and instructors to teach brain-based training and education tactics. Her science-backed techniques leverage knowledge about how the adult brain learns to ensure that learning is actually taking place—regardless of the learner or context. She is an expert trainer of professional communication skills, most often focusing on professional writing skills. Her clients look to her to help them solve the inefficiencies created by poor communication skills among employees and teams. Allison’s clients have consisted of organizations in the public, private, and academic sectors, including Marsh McLennan, Pinnacol Assurance, American Innovations, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Denver Public Library, the Douglas County (Colorado) Government, the University of the Pacific, the Montana University System, the Association for Graduate Enrollment Management, and the Association for Continuing Higher Education. She has been published in academic and trade publications, includingUNBOUND, TDmagazine, andThe Chronicle of Higher Education.

I almost didn't get this book. I'm really glad I did. The narrator/author was very nice to listen to. she didn't dwell on just one area too long. I learned a lot and an listening to it again right away.
I love the sign in the shop that said " Shoplifters will be prostituted"!

I struggle communicating with others and noticed those struggles on my own but once I noticed them I found this book and it started me on a journey to help reform how I am going to communicate in the future

The book was engaging and enlightening! It gave me new avenues to explore in my daily communication in an easy to understand format. I would recommend this book to anyone, most especially people in leadership roles or working in teams. I will be reading again and making more notes to implement.

A lot of self evaluation you will get out of this audiobook. It’s a general view , wish it would have been more specific with issues . The audio book narration is awesome . It’s short , wish it would have been longer .

The author’s voice, diction, and delivery are clear. Listening is pleasant and allows you to focus on content. The author’s content is clear. It’s not mucked up with a lot of hard to remember acronyms or made up rules or winning ideas. Odd that a reviewer felt they were too smart to listen to the Professor.

There are some great concepts in here that can kick start a new way of thinking if you really haven’t given much thought to communication. I think this would be best geared towards a college student or young adult entering the workplace. The concepts are simple and there were some interesting research about the brain, however, it is very drawn out. It is written in a digestible tone, but is about 1.5 hours too long.
