Publisher's summary

The answer to why people feel and act the way they do lies in the profound effect of a child's bonding process with his or her parents. How successfully we form and maintain relationships throughout life is related to those early issues of "attachment". The author has cited four primary bonding styles that explain why people love, feel, and act the way they do.

This book is for anyone who desires closeness, especially in the most intimate relationships: marriage, parenting, close friends, and ultimately God.

The narrator was horrible and difficult to endure. Halting and elementary speech. The book was fascinating. I wish the narrator would just talk conversationally. Instead his performance was an F. Ruined it.

Buy the Book... Skip Audio Version

This book provides a nice summary of attachment theory from Christian therapists' experience and perspective. Examples of the Ambivalent, Avoidant, Disorganized, and Secure attachment styles as well as case studies are abundant and allow one to self-identify one's personal style. The theory is presented within a spiritual framework with scripture to help readers integrate faith-based precepts with concepts historically presented only from a secular perspective. The authors conclude with practices and spiritual disciplines for those actively pursuing a Christ-led life to counter-balance attachment style based challenges. That being said, the presenter's style of the audio version is distracting with emotional inflections tightly limited within each word, annunciations so precisely delivered, and diction paced such that it often sounds automated rather than read by a person. To overcome the tedious pace, consider turning up the speed (1.5 speed made it less obvious).

Great Information but Not Great Narration

I thought it was read by a robot. But the book itself is very informative. I loved how it was biblically based and tied scripture into attachment.

Good stuff

Good stuff; helpful; examples are simplistic; narration sounds computer generated; I am informed but I don’t really know what to do with it.

This Should Be Heard Once A Year Minimum

Just like I stated in the title, please add this to your yearly listen list. The educational content is spot on, and as I or we grow in life, I feel this book will expose even more learning enlightenment. Thanks for this material.

extremely robotic narrator

I really wanted to listen to this book. But I discontinued it after a chapter or two because the extremely robotic voice of the narrator was very distracting from any kind of content assimilation. that's a shame... having read the book it really is pretty good but this narrator makes it impossible to listen to.

Improve Relationships With God, Family, & Friends

Bottom lineup up front, Attachments is profoundly insightful. The authors bring together science and spirituality, psychology and faith, seamlessly.

I struggled a bit with the first half of the book. The theory and concept behind Attachment theory proposed by Dr. Clinton and Dr. Sibcy is laid out. They present the consequences of unhealthy attachments in relationship thoroughly. Their descriptions are clear. The reality of it was a lot to take in personally because of the implication of not finding a healthier way to relate to others and God.

The good doctors don't disappoint and describe a problem without a solution. The second half of the book delves into methods to gain healthy attachments. The detail from the first half really pays off.

Understanding relational attachments was eye opening. The material in the book will change parenting, marriage, friendships, interfamily dynamics, and the relationship we have with God.
I'm going to reread Attachments.

Life-changing material, robotically read

This is a great book! It could change your life forever. But, the robotic voice of the reader made it almost impossible at times. Listening at 1.5 X speed did help somewhat. This is definitely one that I’ll purchase in hardcopy as well in order to get the most out of it.
