Publisher's Summary

"Life is relationships; the rest is just details."

We are designed for relationships, yet they often bring us pain. In this paradigm-shifting book, Gary Smalley unravels the DNA of the three great relationships: with God, others, and ourselves.

All relationships involve choice. Gary exposes a destructive "dance" that characterizes nearly every relationship conflict, and offers five new dance steps that will revolutionize relationships.

The DNA of Relationships, the cornerstone audiobook in Gary Smalley's relationship campaign, will revolutionize the way you relate to your spouse, family, friends, and coworkers.

Could be half as long

Good grief, this book could be shortened by half if he would simply quit promoting his and his son's workshops and get to the meat of it.

Bottom line simple easy to implement

I have been passionately pursuing personal and spiritual growth and development for the last 10 years. In fact it's my number one hobby. However in the mist of this passionate pursuit I've almost destroyed my marriage. My husband has felt unsafe, judged and unworthy. He's felt like he can't keep up with all my growth and it's caused him to feel unworthy. Reading this book has not only transformed my life but it's also transforming my marriage. It's teaching me how to take responsibility for my actions and my life and to let others take responsibility for their's. It's teaching me instead of being a fixer to be a validator and a good listener. Who wouldn't want a spouse or friend that validates, supports, hears and understands you. I am committed to being that person. Thank you Gary Smalley!

Useful

This is a very clear way to learn about healthy ways to listen and speak to those you love and everyone else you meet in your day. It outlines how we all react to our fears and gives ways to think about how to navigate this during communication

Best Relationship Book I’ve Read.

Practical, application based, results focused. Written in an easily understandable format with specific examples. If I could give it 6 stars I would!

Great for all relationships!

Would you listen to The DNA of Relationships again? Why?

I'm using it for pre-marital counseling with my girlfriend. It is astounding how much it helps.

Heavy on religion

Has some advice that is useful but unless you are ready for a serious sermon, you may want to look at other authors.

How to make relationship your god

Yes, that’s right. According to this book, if you want great relationships, forgo the 1st commandment. Make your spouse a god, your friend a god, etc. Basically in order to have a great relationship forget obedience to the Most High as #1 and create little gods of relationship to worship. And take care of yourself more so you can do this even better! Yes, they will love you in return. Who wouldn’t? But at a great cost to your salvation. If people don’t want anything to do with you anymore because you’d rather be obedient to the commandments in the Bible, especially the first commandment, than it’s time to say goodbye. This book equates worshipping relationships to worshipping the Most High God. Seriously wrong and dangerous.

I highly recommend this relationship building book. I've listened to it twice now and more convinced than ever that life is about having great relationships.
