Publisher's summary

Do you want to get ahead in life? Climb the ladder to personal success? The secret, master networker Keith Ferrazzi claims, is in reaching out to other people. As Ferrazzi discovered in early life, what distinguishes highly successful people from everyone else is the way they use the power of relationships - so that everyone wins.

In Never Eat Alone, Ferrazzi lays out the specific steps - and inner mindset - he uses to reach out to connect with the thousands of colleagues, friends, and associates on his contacts list, people he has helped and who have helped him. And in the time since Never Eat Alone was published in 2005, the rise of social media and new, collaborative management styles have only made Ferrazzi’s advice more essential for anyone hoping to get ahead in business.

In a nutshell

Networking with a plethora of anecdotal methods to increase social capital.

The most memorable rule was generosity is the key to success. Half of the key is being able to ask for and accept generosity. The other half is genuine generosity with sharing time, knowledge, other connections, etc. and remembering never to keep score.

Good narration.

Breaking the confines of my introverted Walls

The most memorable moment for me was discovering this is not just another Secrets to Success book by a marketing analyst. It is process to make meaningful connections with other people, developing mentors, growing and changing oneself, loving and inspiring oneself and others. A means of being honest, authentic and generous. This book provides much more. Please listen/read for yourself.

About 3 hours of pure gold, 10+ hours of tedium

If you could sum up Never Eat Alone, Expanded and Updated in three words, what would they be?

boring but good

What was most disappointing about Keith Ferrazzi and Tahl Raz ’s story?

"Expanded and Updated" must be code for endless boring filler added to some great advice.

What didn’t you like about Richard Harries’s performance?

Torturous long winded stories to make a simple point. Do we really need every conversation word for word with every person he has met in his life. Way too much off-topic filler, if I wanted a book on for example Goal Setting or Time Management I would buy a book on Goal Setting or Time Management.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

After getting through the first 9 chapters I actually posted that I was thinking of hanging myself I was so board.

Any additional comments?

This book is very motivating and has some great ideas and advice about networking, I estimate about 3 maybe 4 hours worth. Skip the first 9 chapters, and skip the last half dozen or so. When he starts to go off on some pointless tangent you can always fast forward a little. I am really glad I listened to it, but think there is no excuse for making it 14 hours long.

Far more than just a self-help book

Far beyond just relationship building, this book is a great guide for how to view your own leadership and career. It is chocked full of actionable steps and processes to enact through your life. At 13 hours long, it definitely will take several listens or read throughs to gather all of the knowledge. This book is one I listen to at least one a year to keep it top of mind.

As for the audio portion, the VA does a great job and the book is written in a way that makes narrating easy to follow and listen to.

Have you taken one of Keith's courses?

Having taken a course taught by Keith, and having listened to his incredible presentation style and personality, I found this book lacking only in that he wasn't reading it.
