Publisher's Summary

A newly revised and updated edition of the influential guide that explores one of the most powerful ways to attract attention and influence behavior - fascination - and how businesses, products, and ideas can become irresistible to consumers.

In an oversaturated culture defined by limited time and focus, how do we draw attention to our messages, our ideas, and our products when we have only seconds to compete?

Award-winning consultant and speaker Sally Hogshead turned to a wide realm of disciplines, including neurobiology, psychology, and evolutionary anthropology. She began to see specific and interesting patterns that all centered on one element: fascination.

Fascination is the most powerful way to capture an audience and influence behavior. This essential book examines the principles behind fascination and explores how those insights can be put to use to sway:

  • Which brand of frozen peas you pick in the case
  • Which city, neighborhood, and house you choose
  • Which profession and company you join
  • Where you go on vacation
  • Which book you buy off the shelf

Structured around the seven languages of fascination Hogshead has studied and developed - power, passion, innovation, alarm, mystique, prestige, and alert - Fascinate explores how anyone can use these triggers to make products, messages, and services more fascinating - and more successful.

I rarely give a book 5-stars!!

This book helped me understand branding for my small business so much more and in a different way than I've ever heard it approached! The best part of the book I thought was the second half when she gave practical ways to use you "brand advantage". You MUST take the branding test (for free) online, it's so worth it!! Thanks Sally :)

great marketing/branding idea book

she goes on tangents several times through the book which pulls the overall rating down slightly, but this is definitely a that book that will help anyone hoping to market their brand better

Pretty good and useful

The book could be shorter, straight to the point could be better but still awesome.

Motivational, but lacks substance!

I'm very disappointed. I kept waiting and waiting to learn something as I listened to this book. At times, I was like, "Finally, she's going to get to the good stuff now." But, every time I was let down. I even purchased her upgraded profile for $28, and that just repeated everything in the book. I'm sad.

Great ideas to apply to branding - skip part one

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, but I would say to go direct to part 2 (chapter 10 on). In part 2 it introduces the 7 brand advantages in detail. Each and every brand has one of this seven advantages, knowing which one will help you fascinate with your brand and your message. In part 3 explains the 7 tactics associated to the 7 brand advantages, combining both of them will help you boost your message and get the most out of your marketing efforts.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

There's a pdf attached to the audiobook which is just GREAT. It works with part 2 and 3 from the audiobook (from chapter 10 on) and brings very useful visuals.

Have you listened to any of Sally Hogshead’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time I listen to her. She giggles quite a lot, but it's entertaining and easy to listen.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Go direct to chapter 10 :-)

Can't hear her laughing about her own jokes...

No doubt an interesting and important text. But can't stand her chuckling about her own (not always intelligent) jokes. There is sth for professional actors reading texts...

fascinating listen

came to this book after I heard the author on a well known podcast and was intrigued by her message and approach to the subject of what fascinates -- the book did not disappoint - there is so much useful material in both the book and the accompanying PDFs.

A listening easy to transform into action

Excellent content. It opens your mind, makes you think about your brand and how you are selling it through the markets. It made merevise past errors and gave me a better understanding about why some brands captivate us.
The pdf material is very important but don't read till you understand correctly how to use it.
It has helped me a lot on the first listening but As I kept on going deeper into the book I decided to buy the book so I could revise some specific parts.
Great book whatever your profession is, you can use it for your brand, your personal brand or even for sales presentations in order to have a better result.
