Publisher's summary

Banks: Buried in the shadows of the city, there's a hotel called The Pope. Ailing, empty, and dark, it sits abandoned and surrounded by a forgotten mystery. But you think it's true, don't you, Kai Mori? The story about the hidden 12th floor. The mystery of the dark guest who never checked in and never checks out. You think I can help you find that secret hideaway and get to him, don't you? I will never betray him. So sit tight. On Devil's Night, the hunt will be coming to you.

Kai: You have no idea what I seek, Little One. You don't know what I had to become to survive three years in prison for a crime I would gladly commit again. I want that hotel, I want to find him, and I want this over. I want my life back. But the more I'm around you, the more I realize this new me is exactly who I was meant to be. So come on, kid. Don't chicken out. My house is on the hill. So many ways in, and good luck finding your way out. I've seen your hideaway. Time to see mine.

Contains mature themes.

Cat and Mouse 🐭

Oh my gosh! I know this is a series but I could not see it getting any better! The back and forth and twists are amazing. I love that main female character isn’t a normal nice girl day dreaming about a man. I wasn’t sure if I was going to even be able to get through it reading the summary but so glad I didn’t let it get in my way!!

Good, but lacking.

I like this series so far, but the stories just seem to be missing a little something. It needs more details, a little more explanation and descriptions. I felt the ending of this story with Kai and Banks was lacking, there could have been a little more to their story. I’m sure their story will be explained more in the next book, but their book needed more. Also, I thought Rika was slow to figure things out in the first book, but I think that’s just a common theme with the author, a way to explain what’s happening plainly for readers who may not be quick to understand. But I was surprised again, because sometimes Kai was stupid (like Rika in book 1). It blows my mind the things Banks told him but he still just didn’t understand. So I’m prepared for other stupid characters in the last two books haha. Besides being annoyed with the lack of detail and common sense, these books are good and a decent read/listen. The narration isn’t the best, but it doesn’t take away from the story. I recommend listing/reading despite the flaws.

Book 2, whew!

I had every emotion that could be had over this book. The first one not so much but...I laughed out loud. I sighed in anxiety. I shook my head. I cussed out loud. This book was by far one of the best of my year. I almost dnfed it because book 1 really didn't make me happy. This one made book 1 worth it all! Read, read, read it! Only Will is left & now I have to start book 3!

Blown Away!

Penelope Douglas is fast becoming my favorite author!! I’d read Corrupt before and even got the chance to meet her, but Hideaway...OMG...fantastical!! I was completely hooked with all the twists and turns, the thrill of Banks and Kai with a little Damon thrown in! This book was a perfect follow up to Corrupt. Both are a MUST ABSOLUTELY read!! Loved it!

Just as good as Corrupt

I put off reading this follow up to Corrupt because I just kept thinking there was no way it would ever live up to the perfection of book 1. I was pleasantly surprised to be hooked immediately and drawn back into that world, though it was constantly in the back of my mind that those feelings were going to go away. Any minute. But they never did! It just kept coming. And I am one who hates giving 5 stars to books because I feel like it takes something really special to achieve that. It's not a rating that comes with every book I read, in fact, 4 stars are hard to come by from me. But there was NOT ONE THING wrong with this book. It was perfection. I will admit that I didn't love it quiet as much as Corrupt, but as I said, there was nothing wrong (and everything right!) with this second book in the Devil's Night series, and those 5 stars were well earned. Ms Douglas has me impatiently waiting for the third installment.

I liker it

To be fair I listened to it while getting a rather painful tattoo. I enjoyed it but didn’t really feel much chemistry between Kai and Banks. Again might be the 6 hours getting my ribs tattooed… idk.. I liked the book
