Publisher's Summary

If my childhood taught me anything, it was to survive. Now I have a deep-rooted mistrust of people and a wall of steel and ice surrounding my heart.

So, when Reed Ryan steps into my life, I know I need to keep him far away. He’s everything I grew up hating. Fighting. Fleeing. Devastatingly handsome, he looks like a drunken regret and has heartbreak written over every inch of his body - literally. He’s the quintessential bad boy...and he’s a cop.

But the man is my undoing. When I push, he stands firm. When I fight, he battles for us. When he touches me, my traitorous body and heart respond.

Little does Reed know, every lie I feed him is laced with truth. I have demons that refuse to let me go. Now one of them is threatening to destroy us both.

All the feels!

It is finally here! I never thought we would get this book. It has been a long time coming, and I am so glad, Molly McAdams finally wrote the missing Ryan brothers story. This book is filled with so many emotions and so much angst. Once I started to listen, I couldn't shut it off. The narrators nailed it.

DNF

Got to about 1/2 of the book and just couldn’t listen anymore. Emily is too much a victim. I actually didn’t care for reed or Lala reaction to Emily and her past struggles. I thought Lala should have been more understanding. Nora was irritating. Yes she is only 6 but I thought everyone babied her too much

One word… Therapy

This bish needs therapy. The narrators saved this book for me but the main characters are hella annoying.

Beautiful Read

Very thought provoking as to how individual who have faced similar situations respond and adapt to situations around them. Good story with an great point of view.

Loved it!

I loved everything about this book. The plot, the characters, the narrators. I wish this was a series to hear more about the other characters but that does not take away how great this story was. Will definitely look into reading more books by Molly McAdams.

Ugh

Don't understand how so many were actually able to finish... I couldn't make it past the seventh chapter. I feel for Emma and the way she grew up but her attitude and just blatant disdain for Reed right off the bat just grated at me. Its like judging a book by its cover. Add in the "I can't stand bad boys cause of my mom but oh he makes me so hot" and Reeds reaction to Emma so quickly, horrible. Tim Paige did great on his narration, the few I was able to listen to and normally I love Savannah Peachwood but it just seemed like she wasn't feeling it this go round. The narration of Emma in between tidbits of her actually "talking" to people seemed so drawled out and lackluster. I highly recommend not listening too..... Waste of time.

Great book

Slow burn romance with a lot…and I mean a lot, of angst. But the story was a good one and characters had depth and meaning. Reactions were a little unrealistic but it is a romance novel after all. Definitely worth the time. I listened on 1.3 speed.

Could not put this book down

I read a lot of books and I hardly ever write reviews but felt I had to this time!
One of the best books Ive read.
What Emma went through was shocking and her story and journey to recovery with Reed and her new family and heart warming.
Great story and great narration. Thoroughly enjoyed the read.

A challenge but heartfelt read

Whilst loaded with some darker sides to abuse and not as deeply evolved characters I think the author could have taken it up a notch in this area I still read it from start to finish and was definitely not disappointed with the ending.

The narration was a little shaky in parts but overall was good.

Not a quick read but decent had I have not binged it I’m may not have finished it because it’s didn’t have a fast pace for that.

A solid concept & it was part of my membership so that being said worth the time

It did have some sentimental moments and some sweet moments that were lovely. Still not sure what to think of it but I think it was the lack of tension in some moments that I didn’t respond to.

Not bad but not fabulous it’s kinda that in between book which is definitely a good thing

Could not finish.

I tired to finish, honestly but Emma was just so unlikeable as the female lead. Her emotions where all over the place with no explanation for why. Her self-talk was not helpful in giving greater understanding to the plot line. I guess Molly McAdams was trying to create suspense by only eluding to what had happened to Emma and why she left her job in NYC but it just fell flat and slightly too veiled to give reason to Emma's behaviour.

I was only able to listen up to Chapter 7 before I stopped. A weak plot with a very irrational female lead unfortunately.

A very in depth and “full of feels” story. Heart wrenching, confronting, hot and loving. Very much recommend. Performances were superb as well.

Appalling

I'm sorry, this book is absolutely terrible. It's a "one note" story, how she stretches it to nearly 14 hours I'll never know. The writing is dreadful, all overwrought hysteria and hyperbolic language. People do not talk like that, they do not think/self-talk in those terms.

All this would be bad enough, but the basis of this story is extreme sexual trauma. Such a subject deserves much better and more respectful treatment. A story of someone moving into recovery from such a disturbing childhood and trauma could be very powerful but it's handled very poorly here.

I don't understand the characters. Emma changes her mood and attitude so abruptly and without any explanation, I several times rewound to check if I had missed something. We get no insight into any of the other characters either.

I don't like criticising the narrators but they are both awful here. They have terrible writing to work with, but still don't get any of the characters right. Ama talks like a Disney Grandma and Nora talks like a toddler. Maybe talk to a kid that age to get a sense of how they talk and act. Yes, she is VERY poorly written, but the baby voice is absurd.

Way, way, way too long. If it had been a shorter story, it might have been a reasonable arc but it just goes around and around and around the same conversations and conflicts, the same internal dialogues, the same over-the-top descriptions. I thought I was near the end this morning and checked to see there are FIVE more hours of this crap. I'm out.

Absolutely amazing!!!!!

I fell in love with Lie to Me!! It’s so well written and the narrators did such a great job. Watching Emma grow and learning to trust, and Reed just being that absolutely patient and supporting person.
Highly recommend 😍😍
