Publisher's summary

I've never been in love. I've never had an orgasm, but I've faked plenty. I want to experience love. Real, passionate love. I don't want to die.

It's funny what blurts out of your mouth when the plane you're on is going down, and I didn't hold back with my seat mate when my plane decided to crash. My hysterical confessions didn't faze the muscular stranger that sat beside me. In fact, he promised if we survived, he'd give me my first orgasm.

We survived. I came. And then he left without telling me who he was.

On the first day of my job, I stood in front of the Vancouver Wolves hockey team and called out a number. #33. Imagine my shock when he skated forward.

Max is an incredible hockey player, whose wild, out-of-control antics have almost derailed his career. So many secrets shroud his past and continue to threaten his future. Now he's my secret. And that secret could ruin everything.

Contains mature themes.

What a disappointment

Narrator was horrible. No change in tone and no emotion.
I HATED rory's mother. Like seriously wanted to punch her in the face. She was such a b and I hated how Rory had no backbone when it came to her parents. This had great potential but feel short.

ah loved it...great sports Romance!

Both the author and narrator were new to me and I loved them both! This story was full of angst, love, had its steamy parts, a great storyline that kept my attention from the start, and some twists towards the end that I didn't see coming. Definitely recommend! You will not be disappointed!

poor voice over/actress

the story was great. but the voice, could she have any less passion or vocal range? no. if there was a better vocal performance the passion and angst of each character would be much clearer. because of the poor vocal range it was hard to distinguish one character from another. overall I would recommend this book with caviot of a poor vocal performance

It Had Promise

It had Promise... but the book lacked something. The whole book felt forced and choppy.

Absolutely dreadful

The narration is dreadful, to start. Then the characters have some very serious communication issues. And very unhealthy relationships. The parents are disgusting frankly. They bully get into taking this job. Then they don’t let her DO the job. They keep secrets so she can’t make informed choices. But she’s barely better when she won’t speak up when just one or two sentences would clear up so many things. Really, they’re all terrible.

I'm normally not a big sports fan, but this was fantastic! Great balance of romance, humor, sports, and suspense. The narration was fantastic!

When lack of communication goes too far.

It can be cute with some misunderstandings, lack of just having straight communication when you feel unsure, confused in a love story.. When you are unsure of how the object of your affection really feels, like the heroine here. But when the longer you get into a story and the woman and man that cleary want eachother ends up as rational and communicative as high school students that seem to almost want to misunderstand and draw too quick conclusions. Then you have a bit of a hard time to just root for the characters for hours on end. When they again and again can’t be just honest and ask straight up questions as grown ups. It gets too much, too many unworthy turns for smart people to take. Like in a day time soap almost. Too bad. Because it was promising in the beginning when they met on the plane. And the narration isn’t bad.

Read not listen to this

The narrator absolutely ruins this!
Her intonations, attempts at acting, delivery of the lines completely destroyed this. There are lines that seem like they are written sounding ridiculous but I’m positive it was the narrator.
All except one term that made me cringe “baby men.”

If I were the author I would be angry.

The story is good, I loved it. I wouldn’t mind sitting next to a guy like Max on my next flight.

Not bad

The basis of the story is fine, but the couple seem to go from 0-100 in terms of relationship very fast, the big conflict doesn’t really make much sense and there’s a huge theme of rape and SA that isn’t handled as gracefully as it should be. Still an enjoyable listen for the most part though, and it’s free on unlimited so why not I guess!

A very nice easy read and a nice introduction (for me) to this Author.

Good plot - likeable characters with a moral compass (apart from the baddies of course lol).
Will definitely read/listen again and will also be looking up Other books / audibles by this author.

Sweet and light sport romamce

3,5 ⭐ for a fun, light read about a hockey player and a club executive. They meet under traumatic circumstances and he helps her through it. They think they will never see each other again, and Boom 💥 they meet where they least expect. They try to resist, and it's a slow burn 🔥 but end up together battling many enemies and heavy stuff from the past.
We get tension, secrets, abuse (off page and mentioned briefly), fights, lots of hockey and some steam too.
I've never watched hockey, so all the references to it went over my head. Still this was a pretty good read.
Free on KU, and plus catalogue audible too.
Great narration too.

Dreadful performance, could not make it past ch6!

Found the performance absolutely horrendous to my ears. Could not get through it, particularly the male voice. Story was not engaging, with serious jumps and generally just awful. It's free for a reason, wouldn't have been happy if I'd used a credit!

Toxic and ridiculous

I have issues with not finishing books but I almost gave up on this one 5! times. First it seemed ordinary trash romance with 🌶️ but it became somehow annoying and boring in the same time really fast. I don't want to hear phrases like "he is a real alpha" or "his kiss was so male" ever again it was so overused. Spoiler alert ... all the action is a harassment and there is no real conflict just the characters being unrealistic. Do not recommend. Even if you just looking for spice. Not worth it if you have any standards.

Sporty romantic

I really did enjoy this, a little bit different to most romantic stories. Good back story and loved Max and Rory’s characters. Will look out for the author again. I was concerned that the narration of a woman playing both voices wouldn’t cut it but she did very well, do not be put off by that.

Don't bother

The blurb of this novel basically sums up the first couple of chapters of this book, and I don’t feel it delivered on being fun or lighthearted.

Although I did finish this novel, I found all the characters and some of the plot very over the top and frustrating. Rory is asked by her father to be a straightforward, somewhat harsh boss to establish her new role in the company and besides one interaction with #33 at the start, she lets EVERYONE walk over her, especially her parents and the other employees. Max also allows others to do this to him (within reason), but you can understand he is intentionally managing his emotions and outbursts to maintain his position in hockey, so it’s more accepting given he has a lot to lose. Basically, a lot of the plot would’ve been resolved if she had just had a backbone at the start of the book.

More importantly, as a woman I do appreciate the sexual assault messaging in this book (it’s an important topic to raise awareness to, and I feel like this is great platform to exercise empathy and knowledge around what to do if you’ve been in that situation, or what to do to best support someone in that situation) but I feel like the author took it a bit far using 4 or 5 instances as a way to generate conflict. This could’ve been effective with 1 or 2 cases and having those themes reiterated or intertwined with the messaging throughout the novel, rather than throwing more and more women into the mix.

All in all, this was an okay read, but it was hard for me to get over the above points and there were quite a few sentences that were poorly written, that when read out loud took me out of the story when listening to the Audiobook. Also, the pizza delivery scene at the end was completely unnecessary and way over the top.

Great book!

I don't really know why I loved this book so much.... Maybe the sneaking around and the fact that the characters were actually really interesting making you want to know what happens with them next. The end felt really rushed which sucked and some was a bit far fetched... But I loved the story still.

My first and favourite hockey romance

Max and Rory survive a plane crash together and find themselves working together. They can't seem to untangle themselves from each other and end up in a relationship kept secret from the rest of their colleagues. Needless to say, plenty of 🥵🌶 scenes ensue. Everything is going well until... cue the crazies. Was a great read and will likely read again

I’ve read better hockey romances. The plot had too much unnecessary drama. It got hard to listen towards the end.

Wee bit over the top.

As long as you’re not bothered by over the top, you’re fine. There’s just some more is more is more going on. That also means it drags a bit.

The narration was ok, but she’s not great at male voices.

Saying all that, as it’s free, I’ll give #2 a go.

But Narration was bad, making some lines sound pathetic when really on paper they weren't. Especially her lower tone male voice.
