Publisher's summary

A psychological suspense novel of obsession and dangerous love. The new, updated edition of Too Late from the number one New York Times best-selling author of Verity.

Sloan will go through hell and back for those she loves. And she does so, every single day. Caught up with the alluring Asa Jackson, a notorious drug trafficker, Sloan has finally found a lifeline to cling to, even if it’s meant compromising her morals. She was in dire straits trying to pay for her brother’s care until she met Asa. But as Sloan became emotionally and economically reliant on him, he in turn developed a disturbing obsession with her—one that becomes increasingly dangerous every day.

When undercover DEA Agent Carter enters the picture, Sloan’s surprised to feel an immediate attraction between them, despite knowing that if Asa finds out, he will kill him. And Asa has always been a step ahead of everyone in his life, including Sloan. No one has ever gotten in his way.

No one except Carter.

Together, Sloan and Carter must find a way out before it’s too late....

So gripping

This was a really great book. I liked the different different perspectives--especially that of the narcissist, sociopath.
Well done!

Hooked after chapter one

This book did not disappoint!

I was so wrapped in this story. Verity was one of my favorite books. I have been searching for one sort of similar. This did not disappoint. In the beginning she did give a trigger warning. So if you are someone triggered by DV, SA, child hood trauma, and drug use this book is not for you.

Not my favorite from Colleen Hoover

The narrators, especially the woman, almost sounded like a computer reading the story. Little to no emotive quality in the voice, hard to engage with her character.
While the storyline was good, too much profanity.

My freaking HEART!

First off, trigger warning. It wouldn’t be a Colleen Hoover novel if she didn’t shatter our hearts, throw the pieces in the mud, and stomp all over them before putting them back together. In her pursuit of that, we are subjected to graphic drug use, non consensual sex, mental illness, domestic and child abuse, and graphic violence. I think that’s it, but there may be more so tread lightly, sensitive listeners.

All that aside, I like this book a lot. Not sure it’s my favorite from her, but it was still as impressive as all the others. I’m in awe of her ability to write so authentically from the minds of so many different types of characters. Her understanding of human emotion is remarkable and sets her and her books apart from so many other authors.

This story was heavy, engrossing, and exciting in all the best ways. I love all three of our MCs simply because they were written so well. Especially Asa. She kept me on the edge of hate and sympathy for him from start to finish. It gives you a good idea of what Sloane had to feel without her character even having to explain it to us. Also, it provides fair commentary on the failings in the US Justice System without being preachy.

My only bit of criticism is the length. I love a long novel, but this felt about two hours too long. The last two hours were still great. But I was sort of over it at that point.

Performance was *chef kiss* phenomenal. I mean, seriously. They all exceeded my expectations. Especially Maxine Mitchell. I don’t know if she was trying to, but her voice for Luke sounded so much like Joe Arden’s. Their POVs blended seamlessly.

If you’re not sensitive to heavy topics, I 100% recommend.

Not my favorite

I love Colleen Hoover but this one was a bit disappointing. Storyline dragged out too long and just wanted to get to the end.

Good concept, but slow

Not my favorite and felt the story dragged a bit. I liked the concept, just a little slow for me.
