Publisher's summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of Pieces of Her comes an electrifying thriller featuring newly minted US Marshall Andrea Oliver as she investigates a cold case with links to her father’s past.

A small town hides a big secret.

Who killed Emily Vaughn?

A girl with a secret. Longbill Beach, 1982. Emily Vaughn gets ready for the prom. For an athlete, who is smart, pretty and well-liked, this night that should be the highlight of her high school career. But Emily has a secret. And by the end of the evening, that secret will be silenced forever.

An unsolved murder.

Forty years later, Emily’s murder remains a mystery. Her tight-knit group of friends closed ranks; her respected, wealthy family retreated inwards; the small town moved on from her grisly attack. But all that’s about to change.

One final chance to uncover a killer.

US Marshal Andrea Oliver arrives in Longbill Beach on her first assignment: to protect a judge receiving death threats. But, in reality, Andrea is there to find justice for Emily. The killer is still out there—and Andrea must discover the truth before she gets silenced, too.

Good book but why so political

Good book slightly predictable. Why feel the need to make it political I almost stopped listening I like the police and think Ronald Reagan was one of the best presidents this country has every had. You cut off at least half of your readers by taking jabs at the Republican Party.

Again With The Politics....

I enjoyed the book. Narrator was great. Why with the politics? We get it, Karin, you hate Republicans. Why must you put it in your books? Is it worth losing people who have read, and would continue to read your books? I don't want any politics shoved down my throat when reading! Leave it out or risk losing loyal fans!

Captivating! One of Slaughter's best!

Girl, Forgotten is a "can't put it down" gem from start to finish! Karin Slaughter is absolutely brilliant at humanizing her characters — and Kathleen Early brings them to life through her narration. I highly recommend this book / audiobook for any fan of the genre!

I applaud Slaughter for not shying away from the reality and rawness of violent crime. This book is no exception and, as per usual for Slaughter, it depicts sexual, physical, and emotional violence (as well as other triggering topics, e.g., anorexia) with honesty. That said, I didn't find Girl, Forgotten to be as graphic or — what some may consider — "disturbing" as some of her other novels/books.

On a much lighter note... I'm a big fan of the "F-word", which made the main characters all the more F'ing endearing.

Overly violent

Story was drawn out way too long. Violence was intense.
Domestic violence was over done. Mystery was good but really could have been the same without so much arm twisting and hitting.

I hated every single thing about this audiobook

I listened to 8hrs of this book before I finally quit. There's not a single nuanced character in this book. Just good & bad people. I get that misogyny was pretty prevalent during the time, but this whole book so far can essentially be boiled down to trauma p*rn. It's WAY too over the top. Every woman, with the exception of Emily's mother is punished for existing. The small attempts of having some levity when it comes to Andrea & Mike fail terribly and everything takes forever for this author to get through. I really cannot stress how much I hated this book. Narrator was good, that's all I can say.

Ugh

Ugh this is so hard to get through. It is so overly descriptive that my brain can’t even stay focused on the actual story.

disappointment

I have read everything Karin Slaughter has written and so I was very excited to read this book. I was extremely disappointed. Very boring. I found the characters unlikable and the plot seemed a desperate attempt at a follow up to a so-so read. I guess I was just hoping for another “Pretty Girls” which this wasn’t.

Wow! What a ride!

I’ve been a fan of Karin Slaughter for over a decade. Her writing grips me like no other. It’s like you’re there witnessing every scene with her rich descriptions.

While this is a sequel to Pieces of Her, it could easily be read as a standalone. I liked this book way more than Pieces of Her which I never fully connected with like her other books.

Bravo! Highly highly recommended.

Good book

I love Karin Slaughter but I wish she would stay away from pushing her political feelings in books! It’s entertainment what most use to escape their stress and too relax!
Kathleen Early is a excellent narrator and enjoy her voice and accent.
I enjoyed the story and always love a good twist which Slaughter is excellent at. Hope this will be a series.

Could be shorter

I think this book could be shortened. It drags on a bit some of the scenes could be cut down.
