Very Helpful and Informative

In my opinion, this should be required material for anyone leaving school and searching for their first job. It would also be incredibly useful to anyone undertaking a career transition. Anderson has crafted a helpful book full of great information for job seekers.

In the current climate, this book is particularly useful. Anderson writes with a tone of humor and hope, and in a world where jobs are harder than ever to come by, that is particularly refreshing. Job hunting can be a frightening thing, and it can wear you down, but Anderson presents it as an exciting adventure.

The honesty and expertise held within this book are sure to be helpful to anyone in pursuit of a job. Eliminate the guesswork from your search. Anderson spells out for you exactly what you should and shouldn't do on your resume, in your interview, and even once you've gotten the job.

Simple, practical steps

If you could sum up Job Hunting: The Insider's Guide to Job Hunting and Career Change in three words, what would they be?

Easy to use

What was one of the most memorable moments of Job Hunting: The Insider's Guide to Job Hunting and Career Change?

I have read materials on this same topic and appreciated the extra chapter that she includes about the new buzzwords in the technology field which I haven't seen addressed before. AB testing, data mining, and marketing automation are used in a variety of industries, and they are explained clearly in this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did want to keep reading this book but I can also refer to it again and again as a reference guide. This book is filled with simple, practical steps to help those who are hoping to either switch jobs or careers. Doing either can be very stressful and emotional, and this book helps the reader take small steps towards their goal. She gives examples of effective and ineffective ways to write your resume, and the comparisons are helpful. Emily Anderson discusses how to prepare for an interview and how to resign peacefully from your current employer while giving them positive, fair feedback. Anderson ends with a suggestion to create a 5-year plan. I love this idea and believe it could be useful in your career path but also in other areas of your life.

An Magnificent Gem

For all of the books I have read on finding a job, and the few high school and college classes I have attended on the subject. This book has been a serious eye opener for me.

To me, while listening to this book, It felt like a common day society course in job hunting. Every option at your disposal now, is gone over in surprising detail. The chapters are set up so you can skillfully and quickly maneuver yourself ahead of the majority of job seekers vying for the employment you desire. There is no jumping around from subject to subject. This is in no way a retelling of job searching practices from a decade ago. Granted the base foundations of preparation are still in play.

Explaining step by step instructions, Ms. Anderson uses real world examples, and constantly references professional employer and recruiter statements. By incorporating these types of examples throughout the book, the author uses enhances current mainstream careers as a backdrop. Of course, including social media processes as added steps on presenting oneself with professionalism. This writing style excels at showing the listener, both what is pertinent when in interviews, creating a resume, and networking inside your chosen industry. As well as, what is not acceptable when building your online persona, and face to face introductions. Ms. Anderson also tactfully uses common metaphors to explain somewhat complicated concepts. In my opinion, this gave me the proper mindset for understanding what employers truly desire and look for in the job market. Which has been something I have only thought about in passing and not really understood at its core.

Lastly, I was inspired to self empowerment from beginning to end. There was no room for me to feel overwhelmed with everything one has to do to go on the hunt for a job. This book is a very useful asset that I will be taking advantage of, immediately!

I'm An Adult....Now What?

Entering into the adult world after college is both one of the most exciting and the most terrifying things. And finding a job is arguably one of the hardest practices to get behind once you officially become a member of the adult world. I know from my personal experience, I found the idea of job hunting to be daunting and intimidating. Where do I start? How do I write a resume? What are some good and bad interview techniques? And how do I know if a job is actually a good one or not?

Emily Anderson lays it all out for you, quick and straight to the point. She walks you through each process and breaks it down into the Do's and Don't's of what to do when applying, when writing a resume, when interviewing, and even when you go in for your very first day. I know I found a lot of this to be very helpful advice and I would strongly recommend this book for anyone who is feeling a little lost in regards of where to take their next steps in the career world.

Very helpful as a stay at home mom looking to re-enter the workforce

Being a stay at home mom has been the most rewarding yet hardest job of my life. It is a career in and of itself. If you’ve ever been a stay at home parent you know what I mean. That being said, once you decide to start working again, let’s face it after years of talking to toddlers, playing housecleaner, and helping kids with homework, you’re a little rusty on how to present yourself well and nail that interview.

I recently decided to start working again, and though my old job offered to take me back, I decided a field change would be nice. After two interviews and no call backs I decided I may need some help. This is where Emily Anderson’s book comes in.

Her presentation from building your resume to the interview is very well informed. I love how she even went into how your social media like Twitter, Facebook etc can affect your outcome. The part I appreciated the the most was the section on emails. This is where I realized I made my mistakes. It is not texting. It is a letter representing yourself and selling yourself, so even continuing correspondences still need to be well worded, laid out, and continue to present you well.

Emily Anderson’s Job Hunting book is a home run if you need those easy reminders and skills to help set you aside from other applicants. I truly enjoyed it and hopefully now I can find that job I’m ready for!

know your career path

This book explains the most important takeaway is that there isn't just one career path out there for you. You probably have lots of passions, and you can definitely have lots of jobs. You'll find valuable interview tools with detailed potential questions and responses within the book. Some of the content was surprisingly encouraging, such as how to turn a layoff into an opportunity and how to view a perceived failure instead of as a valuable time period where you learned many skills. This book has great tactical advice about how to apply for and get a job that you'll love.

practical book for job hunters

This practical and thorough book motivated me to take action and then walked me through the entire process of how to follow through. There's a self-assessment chapter that helped me step back and go through a discovery process around what I really want.  I'm happy to say I found an amazing new role and the search process was so much easier thanks to the concise wisdom from this book. It determines professional areas to pursue, understand the job application process and overall have an understanding of what employers are looking for in future employees.
