Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 20th-century psychology, The Courage to Be Disliked follows an illuminating conversation between a philosopher and a young man. The philosopher explains to his pupil how each of us is able to determine our own life, free from the shackles of past experiences, doubts, and the expectations of others.

Publisher's summary
What if you could defuse tension and create accord in even the most volatile situations - just by changing the way you spoke? Over the past 35 years, Marshall Rosenberg has done just that, peacefully resolving conflicts in families, schools, businesses, and governments in 30 countries all over the world. On Nonviolent Communication, this renowned peacemaker presents his complete system for speaking our deepest truths, addressing our unrecognized needs and emotions, and honoring those same concerns in others. With this adaptation of the best-selling book of the same title, Marshall Rosenberg teaches in his own words:
- Observations, feelings, needs, and requests - how to apply the four-step process of Nonviolent Communication to every dialogue we engage in
- Overcoming the blocks to compassion - and opening to our natural desire to enrich the lives of those around us
- How to use empathy to safely confront anger, fear, and other powerful emotions
Here is a definitive audio training workshop on Marshall Rosenberg's proven methods for "resolving the unresolvable" through Nonviolent Communication.

Story
Why have history's greatest minds - from George Washington to Frederick the Great to Ralph Waldo Emerson along with today's top performers, from Super Bowl-winning football coaches to CEOs and celebrities - embraced the wisdom of the ancient Stoics? Because they realize that the most valuable wisdom is timeless and that philosophy is for living a better life, not a classroom exercise. The Daily Stoic offers a daily devotional of Stoic insights and exercises, featuring all-new translations.

Instead, Barrett shows, we construct each instance of emotion through a unique interplay of brain, body, and culture.

First half was better than second half
I really enjoyed the book and I felt that I learyn a lot of practical tips on non violent communication. however the second half of the book was filled with very repetitive stories that seemed to circle around the same points without enough practical applications. to be more specific it was a bit philosophical as opposed to being everyday practical that's said it was a good critique of the psychotherapy and therapist world.

Empowering
Reading this book has changed the way I think and communicate with all my friends and family. I have actually tried using non-violent communication with clients at work in the middle of a conflict and the results were incredible. The clients thanked me often just for listening to them even when I had nothing positive to offer them. AND I definitely don't say 'but' during disputes anymore. This is by far one of my favorite books of all time. Thank you, Dr. Rosenberg, this book is a precious gift to humanity.
