Publisher's summary

Audio bonus! Includes exclusive conversations with the authors!

From an acclaimed Harvard professor and one of Time’s most influential people, this paradigm-shifting audiobook shows how almost everything we think we know about aging is wrong, offers a front-row seat to the amazing global effort to slow, stop, and reverse aging, and calls listeners to consider a future where aging can be treated.

For decades, experts have believed that we are at the mercy of our genes and that natural damage to our genes - the kind that inevitably happens as we get older - makes us become sick and grow old.

But what if everything you think you know about aging is wrong? What if aging is a disease - and that disease is treatable?

In Lifespan, one of the world’s foremost experts on aging and genetics reveals a groundbreaking new theory that will forever change the way we think about why we age and what we can do about it. Aging isn’t immutable; we can have far more control over it than we realize. This eye-opening and provocative work takes us to the front lines of research that is pushing the boundaries on our perceived scientific limitations, revealing incredible breakthroughs - many from Dr. David Sinclair’s own lab - that demonstrate how we can slow down, or even reverse, the genetic clock. The key is activating newly discovered vitality genes - the decedents of an ancient survival circuit that is both the cause of aging and the key to reversing it. Dr. Sinclair shares the emerging technologies and simple lifestyle changes - such as intermittent fasting, cold exposure, and exercising with the right intensity - that have been shown to help lead to longer lives.

Lifespan provides a road map for taking charge of our own health destiny and a bold new vision for the future when humankind is able to live to be 100 years young.

Great listen, but a little preachy.

this is a great book that delivers a tremendous amount of information about the state of Aging research and life extension. it is read by the author with excerpts between the main chapters that include discussions between him and the Ghost Writer he hired to help him.

my only hang up with the book is that the author uses it to promote is political and social viewpoints. I don't blame him entirely but I do not necessarily agree with his politics so I found it to detract from the experience.

all that being said, I would highly recommend this book to anybody interested in living a longer healthier life.

A very insightful book, bizarre, unrelated ending.

The first 75% book is exactly what you're thinking it is - a book about aging and the current evidence about the aging and anti-aging process. The last 25% is, as others have mentioned, a completely bizarre, unrelated addition that should have been left out of this book. While the initial conclusions at the end are reasonable (what would this mean for healthcare if people are living to 200+ years old), the rest of it completely unrelated (we shouldn't prolong life just yet because republicans just need to die off so that people can vote democrat, which is the true, morally correct option). You would think a scientist would be able to separate himself from this, but no. The end takes away from what would otherwise be a great summary of the current literature.

Great Book

Informative with actionable data, personal stories and ethical constructs. Bought the hard copy as well to use as a quick reference down the line. The short conversations between chapters are also a nice touch. Excellent book to listen to on the treadmill. Thank you for writing and narrating! Keep up the great work!

Dr. Sinclair would make a GREAT dinner guest.

There is no question that this Aussie Dr. is a complete badass. I first heard him speak during a podcast with Dr. Attia and I knew that I had to learn more from him. And, it just so happens that he released his book. SO, I bought it, DEVOURED it and honestly, I want more. This book breaks it all down. Down to the very basic bio-chemical processes and biological processes that control, speed up or slow down AGING. An incredible read and re-read, as I'm going to have to review a few of the early chapters. Thank you Dr. Sinclair for spending your life figuring out how to life a HEALTHY life.

Beautiful

What a rollercoaster! So many mixed emotions while reading this book. I never felt so conflicted between wanting to live longer and not even wanting to get to my 80's. Professor Sinclair describes personal experiences in such a way that we can relate to it and describes several scientific experiments in a simple, understandable way. Although, there are quite a few technical names that for someone with no Biology background might be confusing it's a fantastic journey into longevity research and on how society approaches aging. Eye-opening and encouraging reading! There's already so much we can do that is proven to give us a few extra HEALTHY years. I absolutely recommend this book.
