Publisher's Summary

The secret to permanent weight loss revealed. The real reason diets fail has nothing to do with calories and everything to do with the balance of bacteria in your gut. A simple guide to show you how to finally achieve your ideal weight.

The 100 trillion bacteria that live in your digestive tract - which make up 90 percent of the cells in your body - are the real reason you gain or lose weight. When those microbes are out of balance, chronic health conditions can occur, including irritable bowel syndrome, fatigue, and obesity. By balancing the good and bad bacteria, you can finally achieve your ideal weight - for good.

In The Skinny Gut Diet, New York Times best-selling author, public television icon, certified nutritional consultant, and digestive health expert Brenda Watson offers an insightful perspective on the little-known connection between weight gain and an underlying imbalance of bacteria in the gut, or what she calls the "gut factor" - the overlooked root cause of weight gain. Drawing upon the latest scientific research, Brenda illuminates the inner workings of the digestive system and provides instructions for achieving a healthy bacterial ecosystem that spurs weight loss by enabling the body to absorb fewer calories from food, experience reduced cravings, and store less fat. The premise is simple: curtail sugar consumption (and its surprising sources) and eat more healthy fats, living foods, and protein to balance the gut bacteria. The result? A skinny gut.

The Skinny Gut Diet centers around an easy-to-follow diet plan. A 14-day eating plan, dozens of delicious recipes, and sage advice help you achieve - and maintain - digestive balance and sustained weight loss. With inspiring real-life stories of 10 individuals who transformed their health on the Skinny Gut Diet, Brenda empowers you to become your own health advocate so that you can finally shed unwanted pounds and enjoy optimal health and vitality.

Useful but there are better reads on the subject

Slightly better than average diet book based on ideas contained, but that's not saying much. Includes the obligatory glowing testimonials from closely controlled victims and promotion of the authors supplement line. Could have been half as long. The short version is, eat a high fiber paleo diet, plus limited beans and unsweetened dairy, probiotics and soluble fiber supplements. As eating that much animal food is unethical and promotes cancer if you live longer than cave man, i.e. over 25, it doesn't work for me. Narrator sounds like a pseudo-snooty ice queen. If you like the typical, hopeful, its not your fault dear it's the system/genetics/etc., diet as self-help book tone, it's a useful way to get the information. Otherwise The Good Gut is a much more scientific, practical read promoting a healthier long term dietary solution.

Fascinating!

I selected this book mainly to learn more about the microbiome and health. I really enjoyed it and learned a great deal about how manipulating gut health via probiotics and other strategies impact weight and well-being! Surprising info on how gut microbes impact mood and anxiety! A must read! I actually decided to listen to this book after having great success with her Renew Life Probiotics...life changing!

I'm going for it!

The narrator was a little slow but thank goodness we can speed it up on our devices. It was very informative and straight forward. Well worth the read. I'm going to give the diet a try and see how effective it is.

Well written

Overall I found the material to be well organized and thoughtfully written. However, I had a difficult time not being distracted by the narrator's syrupy, sing song style.

This was a great book. Very Concise & informative.

Narration was good, it was quite a bit of info, but the summarized chapters helped.

Informative and repetitive

The book itself offers a lot of good solid information but was repetitive which was exacerbated by the narrator's voice.
