Story
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Being in a relationship without knowing how to share your feelings and receive your partner’s feelings in useful ways is like jumping into a pool without knowing how to swim. You can flail around all you want, but it’s not going to keep you afloat for very long—you need to be able to move in any direction at will. Like swimming, knowing how to share your feelings and respond to your partner's feelings will move your relationship in the direction you want: toward more intimacy, closeness, connection, and trust.

Story
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

Publisher's summary
Congratulations. You have successfully extracted yourself from a relationship with a narcissist.
We’re glad you’re here.
You have just entered into the trenches of the survivors of narcissistic abuse.
It is no doubt that you have been made victim to a blast of brainwashing, gaslighting, circular conversations, and more.
We have suffered alongside you.
We were here all this time, watching the game play out.
You were a victim in the cat and mouse game. You were a victim of the swarm of hive members that surround the narcissist.
You were a victim of the entities that successfully turned the narcissist into what he is today.
And, no doubt, you would have become one of him once the smoke cleared.
But, alas, you have pulled yourself from the ashes.
You are a phoenix, and you have risen again.

Turning the other cheek does not mean standing by while the enemies of God dismantle Christian civilization and brainwash our children. Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. An attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. Metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes Christianity.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

Story
The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us.

Such compassion yet rawness in personality 🙏
i enjoyed this as one of my first reads on audible. i can relate very much as I'm only 18 months out of a 9 yr imprisonment, with 2 children to raise as a single parent. I see now, i too am to be a voice for people like us 🌻 only a survivor will truly understand the mind trip it is and what it's like to come out of that reality.

Excruciatingly painful
Save yourself the time and don't bother with this. Extremely negative throughout. Not helpful for PTSD at ALL. This is more of a poorly written and performed self-love book.

Disappointing
This wasn't at all what I anticipated. It was basically a soothing pep talk with very little actual information or actual tools. The narrator did have a very soothing voice, though. So I had to give a couple more stars to the performance. I kind of want to return it because it had no value whatsoever for me, but it was not a big investment financially. So I'll probably just accept the minor loss.

One person’s story- More of a guided meditation
I appreciate the author’s experience. I was left disappointed, though. I was looking for more tools and how to’s. I felt this book was like having relaxation techniques from a Google search read out loud to me.
If you are looking for relaxation techniques, this will fit the bill. If you are looking for more grit and how to’s, this is not going to satisfy your desire.
