Publisher's summary

Will your children value their legacy? The history of the world is the story of great financial, cultural and ethical legacies built in one generation, only to be squandered by second and third generations who were unwilling and unprepared for the roles and responsibilities that accompany them. It is a problem that troubles wealth managers, social theorists, and, of course, parents.

Solving the problem requires intentionality the process of careful thought and preparation concerning the most critical details that will shape your family and its future. To be intentional is to decide that you will be self-conscious about the way you live your life and shape the legacy you hope to bequeath to the next generations.

In The Intentional Legacy, David McAlvany brings a fresh perspective to this old subject. Drawing from more than 50 years of experience in a multigenerational wealth management firm, as well as his own personal failures and successes, David presents a strategy for reverse engineering your life. Most importantly, he presents a redemptive ethic for family prosperity based on love, forgiveness, and non-contingent relationships.

WOW WOW MUST READ

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I have already mentioned to many. It’s a true inspiration and directly affects the perspective in life, in raising children and how to take care of relationships, finances, all based on Biblical principles.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The author and his experience.

What does David S. McAlvany bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Narrated with the tone of excitement or disappointment as meant from the author

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes- its very “intentional”- in this busy world we all live in unless you're intentional about your values another day goes by with all of its superficial conversations, actions, thoughts,...

Any additional comments?

Every parent, grandparent, Christian, family-centered person should value this book and read it- there’s something for everyone. Thank you Mr McAlvany.

Part Self Help/Part Autobiography/Part Finance

What did you love best about The Intentional Legacy?

I have listened to David McAlvany's, McAlvany Weekly Commentary, podcast every Wednesday for many years. I enjoy his views about investing, markets and the guests he interviews. This book was more about how he has built his life and the adversity he has overcome to become successful in his life by his own definition of success rather than by just making billions for himself and his clients. Some personal finance advice and family financial and wealth building strategies are built into the stories David talks about, but he shares many entertaining and valuable life stories in the book. David may not be the billionaire hedge fund manager, but David has focused on making sure other parts of his life are in good shape besides only focusing on maximizing how successful his 2nd generation family business is in his lifetime. This book talks about health and happiness in other areas of life besides just being rich with a lot of money.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Intentional Legacy?

All of the obstacles David has had to overcome and deal with in life to achieve a happy family life.

What about David S. McAlvany’s performance did you like?

I have enjoyed listening to the McAlvany Weekly Commentary podcast for many years so this book was refreshing to hear David discuss his personal life more than just a book about investing and wealth building.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have. I found this book inspiring having read dozens of other self help books and found them useful.

Any additional comments?

If you listen to the McAlvany Weekly Commentary routinely you would expect David's book to be about wealth building, investing, business and personal finance since David is an eloquent speaker and a master of these strategies. However, it was nice hearing more about David's personal life and the valuable life lessons he's learned and the adversities he's had to overcome to become the man that he is today.
