Publisher's Summary

Self-initiation is killing our young men. Without strong mentors, boys are walking alone into a wilderness of conflicting messages about who they should be as men. It's no wonder that our sons are confused about what the world expects from them and what they should expect of themselves.

The Intentional Father is the antidote. This concise book is filled with practical steps to help men raise sons of consequence - young men who know what they believe, know who they are, and will stand up against the negative cultural trends of our day. Jon Tyson lays out a clear path for fathers and sons that includes specific activities, rites of passage, and significant "marking moments" that can be customized to fit any family.

It's not enough to hope our sons will become good men. We need them to be good at being men. This book shows how fathers, grandfathers, and other male mentors can lead the way.

Gives much to think about.

Leans heavy on religion being the rationale for such endeavors. Still very insightful for those that can take away what is useful to you and leave what is not.

powerful, insightful, best of all, applicable!

Whether you are a practicing Christian or not, (I grew up as a Presbyterian but not actively practicing) wisdom of Jon Tyson's practical words resignates deeply; unveiling a roadmap of "intentional fatherhood", how to shape a young man's character for today's modern social challenges. As a father of twin boys at 10 years old, I wrestle with my own desperation that my influential moments with my boys may be running out soon. Clear, direct, and relatable. Every father, regardless of religious preference, can learn to develop deep bond and lasting character growth for their boys from simply listening to this book. After 125 titles, this is my very first post out of sheer appreciation and adoration.

Incredible. Starts off slow but is totally worth the read

The first 30-45 minutes are repetitive and not great. But after that it’s extremely practical, inspiring, and very well done. I’m so thankful I stuck it out and didn’t return the book and kept listening.

Outstanding!!! Highly recommended!!

Wow! This book introduces ideas that I really had never considered, since my father did not mentor me at all. The suggestions in this book, although very lofty, to pave a blueprint and inspire the reader to really invest in actively raising our sons and helping to form them The way we think they should be formed. What a great gift this is, and the testimony from this book is very inspiring. He also let us know that it’s OK if we don’t do everything that he recommends in this book, but at least do some of it and it will make a huge difference!

Like a compass for a choose your own adventure with your son.

As a father, I found this book helpful to lay out a vision for intentionally raising my son into manhood. It provided direction but allows for a customized path. If you want someone to tell you what to do in specific details this text is going to disappoint you, but if you are looking for principles and a path to walk in helping your son it is definitely worth the read. I would recommend picking up the hard copy as there are things you will want to see in this process.

Impactful- a must read

As men, I feel we've lost our way or maybe even been misguided or misinformed in what it means to be a man, and how to father our boys into manhood. For me, this book planted a seed in what that should/could look like. What potential we have to leave behind a great legacy for our sons and even our daughters by implementing some of the things in this book. The teachings, life experiences. and moments we create for them are what they'll take into the world when on their own. It will be some of the greatest moments and legacy we leave behind. I want my son's journey into manhood to be filled with great experiences and moments. I've definitely fallen short in the past, but ultimately want to heal any wounds that I've caused and become a blessing to all of my children. Thankful for this book. - Nahum Razo

Loved it

Really great content - John is gracious in sharing his journey and super honest that it’s not a direct formula to follow. His questions are excellent - I’m glad I’ve listened to this before my son turns 13 and I have many years to plan and prep. Thank you John for taking the time to put your journey into words - very much appreciated.
