Publisher's summary

Imagine how different your life would be if you could avoid getting the worst out of every deal you negotiate in life.

You will never quite know how much you have left on the table by lacking the negotiation skills to truly get the most out of your dealings. Whether it's negotiating that pay rise at work, attaining the best price for the house/car, or just simply getting more out of your daily interactions. All too often people fall short as they aren't equipped with the psychological strategies and behavior patterns to negotiate successfully.

Not anymore.

James Daugherty is an intelligence expert and former CIA Spy who specializes in all forms of human behavior. But there's one skill which is critical to getting ahead: negotiation. A spy would be a blunt instrument without it.

However he never realized quite how much his ability to negotiate high-level hostage situations whilst working for the FBI and key informant agreements whilst in the field as an American spy would help everyday people in civilian life.

I felt like I paid for what I got...

I selected this book bc I wanted to sharpen my negotiation skills. However, the author makes statements, but has no exercises for you to practice. Instead he talks about the negotiation tactic and tells you to practice. I felt like I learned nothing. I could have looked up negotiation strategies and practice on my own. Readers want exercises, homework or concrete examples with multiple scenarios to reference. Save your money, use google and practice on your own.

No teaching of skills

Great stories, but just touched tools or skills you can use. Does not teach how to effectively apply the skills.

Amazing!

The book is packed with dozens of unbelievably clever ideas you can use immediately to make better deals - to buy or sell anything, to settle lawsuits, to strike whatever deal anyone needs to make. And the book is nice and compact and fits in my brief bag or file.

Great listen!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I ripped through all strategies in a matter of hours. So glad I own the book so I can go back and revisit the strategies. It was so eye-opening.

Concise listen

Quick, to the point and concise. You shouldn't listen it in one go because all these techniques are described in the bare essence. It has to sink in gradually. But it really covers the ground and enhances your arsenal. Recommended!

Highly recommend

If there is one area where I would criticize negotiators, it is in the lack of creativity. Many cases I oversaw could have been settled, I am certain, if the lawyers had spent more time developing novel and effective ways to present their ideas. This book is an excellent roadmap, and I highly recommend it.

Loved it!

Just bought it and love it. I like it not only for negotiating with opponents but for negotiating inside my own company - at raise time, at promotion time, and for some smart jiu-jitsu moves when dealing with people that might be trying to climb the ladder of success by using you as a rung to put their foot on. The stuff on using proven psychology principles and why pitching one way rather than another is genius. Love the discussion of negotiating tips from other cultures. More genius. I was looking for a book that had fresh and clever insights into negotiating with others to get what you want. Found it.

Excellent!

This is an excellent book on negotiation. I particularly like this audible because it is clear, concise, and methodical. Although negotiation can seem complex, this text breaks down key strategies point-by-point, and these strategies for negotiating can be applied in every facet of life. This is a quick listen, and an excellent resource, not merely for business, but for life.
