Publisher's Summary

The New York Times best-selling author of Clean offers a groundbreaking program to eliminate minor and major health problems - from extra weight, chronic pain, and allergies to heart disease, inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and depression.

All of today's most diagnosed ailments can be traced back to an injured and irritated gut. The gut is an intricate and powerful system naturally designed to protect and heal the body every moment of every day. And yet for far too many of us this remarkable system is in disrepair, which leads to all kinds of health problems. We are sick and getting sicker. Chronic diseases are on the rise, and everyone we know seems to be suffering from something, getting tests done and taking over-the-counter or prescription medications. But we no longer have to be sick to get healthy. Dr. Alejandro Junger explains how instead of treating the symptoms as they arise, we can preemptively attack disease before it takes root in the gut.

No matter your current state of health, you will benefit from this program. We are all walking around with damaged guts, to different degrees suffering the consequences in our day-to-day and long-term health. The Clean Gut program will put an end to these everyday ailments, reverse chronic disease, and help you achieve true, long-lasting health.

Recommend

I am very glad I got this book. I think it started a bit slow, and could have skipped the first 1.5 hours which is more about the authors personal story. But some might like the background stuff.
I am fairly self educated on healthy clean eating, and think what I heard here is solid and quality information. I think every-one, in the world, could benefit from the information provided and practicing the cleanse and re-balancing of the digestive system.
I googled the book and see he also has some You Tube videos, check them out first to see if you like his style. He also has a website selling a supplement program, but I was able to get enough info out of the book to design my own, since I dont live in North America I have to make due with what is available to me here.
All in all, a good book and worth a listen if you are looking to improve your health in a very real way.

Reader is difficult to understand

The reader was difficult to understand. Also, additional scientific background would have been helpful. For example, the author states that eating many different foods in one meal houses fermentation in the gut and then proceeds to advise on which food should be consumed together. Why do certain foods ferment? Why do they move through the gut more slowly?

Good book to help introduce this topic to family

I've been looking for a book that I can recommend to family and friends so as to introduce them to my plight and hopefully tickle their interest. This book achieves this and will be buying copies for

Waste of time

It's a lot of the authors story . Very little knowledge shared which is a shame since the author sounds knowledgeable. It feels like one of those books that people create to promote their work and make the book because "they need a book " . You're better off reading the book the paleo code or something worth more substance

Not as much factual information as I hoped for

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book is mostly comprised of stories about the authors friends and patients and how the "clean gut diet" changed their lives. I was hoping for more factual information. I did learn a few things but it wasn't exactly what I was expecting

Would you recommend Clean Gut to your friends? Why or why not?

If you are interested in trying the Clean Gut Diet; you do get the PDF file with this Audible book which includes the list of supplements, foods you can and cannot eat, recipes etc. I plan to try it out next month. I read Gut by Giulia Enders and preferred it. Gut is more matter-of-fact information rather than personal story telling without a lot of scientific explanation

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

If you plan to read Gut by Giulia Enders, this book might be helpful to read first

Fascinating book

This book was very interesting. He describes issues I have been having for years and explains in relatively simple terms what is likely causing it. I'm going to try the program and see if it helps.

I enjoyed listening to the narration.

cardiologist after the gut! I love it

I have many autoimmune disorder diagnosis. I've started the program even though I was already gluten dairy soy and mostly sugar free plus no alcohol. the smoothies have helped and the information on what to eat with what has seemed to take some dwelling down. I recommend this book.

Good info for the beginner.

I enjoyed hearing his personal story and struggles. Also, addressing emotional eating and the cycle was a surprise but necessary.

Worked for me better than paleo/AIP& GAPS

Although the guiding principles of this book are similar to the paleo diet, the additional supplements recommended within the book and the vast array recipes (which actually taste good) I think makes this a must for those who are not seeing the results desired on other diets.
I have been paleo for 3 years and within the the 3 weeks of this diet plan I have made more progress than I have the last 3 years. Very happy

Great book

I had an interest in how the gut plays such a big part in our overall health and this book goes into exactly the extra level of detail I was looking for.
I'm keen to see how implementing the changes suggested will work for me.

Simple, thorough and enjoyable

This is the best book on the subject I have come across so far. I normally listen to audio books while I'm having breakfast or lunch. I found myself listening to this book even whenever I had a little time available. It has also given me a very good understanding of the nature of a condition that has been affecting me for years and has prepared me to make wiser decisions.
