Publisher's Summary

The Ultimate Guide to Kink is the first major guide to BDSM in a generation - a bold and sexy collection of essays that run the gamut from expert how-to tutorials to provocative essays that delve into complex questions about desire, power, and pleasure. The book brings together diverse voices from the kink community in an unprecedented way: each chapter is written by a different sexuality/BDSM educator. Divided into two sections, the first section features thorough, thoughtful pieces - on everything from flogging to bondage. The second section is dedicated to role-playing fantasies and personal manifestos. From age play to masochism, these chapters cover some of the edgiest, most taboo and controversial elements of kink in depth. The Ultimate Guide to Kink features the expertise of renowned educators writing passionately on their favorite subjects, including Patrick Califia, Midori, Laura Antoniou, Barbara Carrellas, Lee Harrington, Jack Rinella, Lolita Wolf, Madison Young, Hardy Haberman, Felice Shays, Ignacio Rivera, Sarah Sloane, Mollena Williams, FifthAngel, and Edge. It will educate, inspire, and challenge both newcomers to the world of kink and experienced BDSM players.

Spoken Like A True Master!

Where does The Ultimate Guide to Kink rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 20%! Definitely one of the best books on Kink in years!

Would you recommend The Ultimate Guide to Kink to your friends? Why or why not?

Absolutely. The information is solid and well conveyed. The narrator is really enjoyable and brings the book to life. Admittedly the narrator was not what I was used to or expecting, initially her style may surprise you. I found her melodious voice, clear emotion and energy stimulating. She is not as staid as one might expect a narrator to be for a collection of instructional essays, however then again, Julia Child wasn't who she was for her dead pan delivery.

Have you listened to any of Anneliese Rennie’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. This is one of her best performances so far!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

F**K! The Mind F**k chapter! The chapter on Tantric Kink is also quite interesting.

Any additional comments?

I am what some might call a voracious reader. I “read” (i.e., actually read or listen to) over 100 books a year. I don’t own a television, rarely go to the movies, however my La-Z-Boy is surrounded by a seemingly endless stacks of books. My car used to be chock-full of boxes of CD and cassette “books-on-tape”… that is, until Audible came along! Now my Audible queue seems as deep as the piles around my reading chair!Audio books, unlike print books have a voice. Not my voice, but the voice of the narrator. Accordingly, a skilled narrator can either make or break a particular audio title. A lousy narrator can make even the best writing unreadable (unlistenable). A great narrator can make an otherwise mundane title come to life. Such is the case with the Ultimate Guide to Kink.Don’t get me wrong, the topic is an exciting one – it’s sex after all! The book contains a dazzling variety of excellent informative essays from a range of authors on myriad ways to express one’s sexuality. The content of the book is first-rate. That said, I agree with other reviewers that because it’s a compilation by various writers; and the content covers such a broad range of kinks and kinky – from newbie to hardcore; the book sometimes lacks a clear audience or singular message. The voice that holds it all together is the narrator. She is the constant. The narrator’s voice is pleasant, melodic and full of life. Not the usual stiff, droll, rhotic (i.e., Midwestern American English) epitomized by American newscasters. Her voice is melodious and full of expression. It brings lightness and life to the material, making the audio edition of this book fun and enjoyable listening. Admittedly, the first few chapters, which are full of lists and instructionally written information, can be initially off putting, however the narrator keeps it alive and definitely doesn’t let this important but admittedly uninspiring informational material put you to sleep. By the time you get to the chapter on Mind F**king… she has so much energy and zeal, and straight up sex appeal, that she makes you forget this is an information/instruction guide and not a porn novel.I know that some reviewers have panned this narrator for her lovely expressive voice and her infusion of emotion and character to what is after all a compendium of instructions. But then for some, doggy-style is considered “kinky”! I found this narration truly entertaining and strongly recommend it to anyone interested in increasing their sexual intelligence. A definitely must listen for novices and master kinksters alike!

A little different from what I expected, but good

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It depends on which friend. The content is very graphic and would be selective with whom I shared this title.

Have you listened to any of Anneliese Rennie’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

XXX

Any additional comments?

I received this title in exchange for a review. I enjoyed this title, but it would not land anywhere near my top ten. But that is largely based on the genre

Absolutely fantastic

Love the way the writer is so experienced and authentic but writes with twists of humor and irony.

Interesting Info, Horrible Narrator!

Any additional comments?

I don't like to write negative reviews. But the narrator was THE MOST annoying narrator I have heard in over 5 years of listening to audio books! She used a sing-song voice, ending every other sentence with an up - swing in her singing narrative. I don't know how else to describe it. But this is not a subject that lends itself to sing-song.

Now I have played around the fringes of the kink community. I think a book like this is a great way to enlighten the curious. There are so many misconceptions about kink. It is NOT a bunch of cruel, sadistic bullies taking advantage of weak - minded people. For the most part, the kink community is very responsible and dilegently strives to ensure that participants are educated in all forms of safety while indulging in their kinky preference.

I really wish I had a copy of the book to review. Apparently, there are personal examples and comments in the margins, but with the narration, there is no way to know when one of these "extras" is being read apart from the main body of the book. It becomes quite confusing.

There is a lot of good information in this book. But I thought it was almost impossible to separate the info from the completely annoying narration!Do yourself a favor and buy the book, not this audio version. I couldn't make myself finish this audio version. I hate to admit that.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book to review fairly.

Narrator Spoils It, Big Time.

Interesting and informative but couldn't listen to narrator. I stopped half way through Chaper 5. Too sing songy for the topic. Too perky. Sooo wrong for the material. Awful.

I bought the book and loved the book with her voice no longer spoiling the mood.

Kink isn't always what you think...

OK so I have had some experience in the Kink community, I have met others and spoken on subjects and learned many things I think is cool and things I would never do. This book basicly covered most of the basics of the basics, a great starting guide if you heard the word KINK and wondered what it actually was about.. Open minds are preffered or you will not get past the first chapter... But yeah the narrator wasn't bad but after a while the half enthusiasm, half force in her voice makes you think shes asking a answer as you had a question... yes I know that sounds off but thats what it sounded like to me...

A good starter book

A good basic introduction. I don't feel like it's going to be helpful for anyone who isn't a total newbie. But it's a good place to start.

Not terribly fond of the narration.

loved It!

Great for when you first start dabbling into the world of bdsm and then to revisit and gain the beginnings of ideas for your own unchartwred scenes or new ideas on loved ones. A+++
