Publisher's summary

You don't have to live overwhelmed by stuff - you can get rid of clutter for good! Decluttering expert Dana White identifies the emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter and provides workable solutions to break through and make progress.

While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.

In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, decluttering expert and author Dana White identifies the mindsets and emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter. In her signature humorous approach, she provides workable solutions to break through these struggles and get clutter out - for good!

Not only does Dana provide strategies, but she dives deep into how to implement them, no matter the listener's clutter level or emotional resistance to decluttering. She helps identify procrasticlutter - the stuff that will get done eventually so it doesn't seem urgent - as well as how to make progress when there's no time to declutter.

In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, Dana’s chapters cover:

  • Why you need this book (You know why)
  • Your unique home
  • Decluttering in the midst of real life
  • Change your mind, change your home
  • Breaking through your decluttering delusions
  • Working it out room by room
  • Helping others declutter

As long as we're living and breathing, new clutter will appear. The good news is that by following Dana’s advice, decluttering will get easier, become more natural, and require significantly fewer hours, less emotional bandwidth, and little to no sweat to keep going.

I love Dana’s approach and wit. And this system works! I highly recommend this book for people who aren’t automatically tidy or who wake up one day surrounded by clutter. Honest, funny and good to the bone!

Awesome & Helpful

First off, I’ve never listened to an author read a book that was any good, but Dana was exceptional!!! If she ever decides to quit her blogging/writing, she could earn a living reading audio books. I would look for her ,that’s how good she was.

Secondly, I went into this book thinking it wasn’t really possible to change the way I think about my stuff, and finally get some things out of our home. I was wrong! I’m in the beginning stages, but I’m walking around my home for the first time ever and looking at it as a container. Dana has given me the permission I need to throw away and donate stuff instead of just figure out how to reorganize the stuff we have spilling out everywhere.

The book was extra interesting because of her own personal examples. I guess it seemed doable compared to those super neat freak women that want to tell you how to to fix your home. Thanks Dana! You’re my new hero.🌷

Best decluttering book I have ever read!

This book was written for the chronic procrastinator, scatterbrained clutterer, and unintentional semi-hoarder. Dana has just a few super-simple steps that she applies to every room in the home, and they work like magic! This book is GREAT for listening to while you declutter your home. She inspires you to declutter while you listen and learn how to manage your stuff. I have read multiple books on decluttering and I can't recommend THIS BOOK enough for clutterers!!

Everything I wanted Marie Kondo’s book to be and more!

I am not sure I will be able to express the magnitude in which the book has impacted my life!

It opened my eyes to how much irrelevant clutter I had in my home and gave me the permission to get rid of it!

The book explains in very rational ways why and how I should be getting rid of clutter. Piles in corners, the stacks of paper, the boxes that I haven’t opened in 10 years… All taking up space in my home.

In addition, the author was extremely easy to listen to. Many non-fiction books can be difficult to listen to in audio form. She made me feel like we were having a conversation and like she was speaking directly to me. One of the best narrators I have listen to in this app.

Everyone should read/listen to this book!

This was my best audible purchase EVER

Fantastic reading, amazing results from the container principle process. I’m getting Dana K White’s other book now. I wish I had read this before we moved, but I started putting the principles into place and saw immediate results!! There really aren’t enough stars to give her.

I have found my clutter twin!

As I listened to this book in Audible I felt as if she was telling all of my deep, dirty secrets! (but wasn’t judging me)! It helped so much knowing that I wasn’t alone and others struggle with cleaning and clutter! It has taken weeks but I am going room by room and am seeing a big difference in my house, my teens’ rooms and in me! I even shop differently. I tend to be very impulsive but now I know that I have to think about the impact and ripple effect it will have if I bring something home (1 in/1 out, where will it go, will it fit in my “container” ? etc. This is a WONDERFUL, EMPOWERING book and a “Must” read for all of my fellow-strugglers out there!

Practical - Helpful - Motivating!

The Konmari Method is brilliant...but this book is a practical start when what one needs is triage NOW. Good stories, helpful and practical advice, and a warm and funny narrator make it a book to recommend. After listening to so many awkwardly narrated books by their authors, I think twice before purchasing one read by its writer. (Really, what are these people thinking!?!) But this audiobook is definitely the exception to prove the rule: the narration was warm, funny, confessional, and natural. She’s a pro! Most likely because she has had a podcast, she has honed her voice. And, good for us, the listeners. I recommend this book positively. It was great.
