Does it seem like everything is moving so fast these days you can barely keep up? Do you sometimes feel that your life is spinning out of control? Most of us are so overwhelmed by the stuff in our daily lives -- work, bills, family commitments, demands from our kids' schools -- that we rush from person to person and place to place. For many of us, life feels completely out of balance because we give one area of our lives too much attention and the other areas nowhere near enough.

Story
Peter Walsh, the bestselling author of It's All Too Much, believes that the secret to successfully losing weight is to forget about calorie counting and weekly weigh-ins. Instead, you need to focus on how, why, and where you eat. When it comes to clearing clutter (the fat in our homes), it isn't about the stuff itself, it's about the life you want to live. The same is true for losing weight: It's not about the pounds, it's about living the life you deserve in the body you want.

Story
Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very lives we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Publisher's Summary
Sorting through a lifetime's worth of accumulated possessions can be a daunting and stressful process that millions of Americans confront every year. The need to downsize often arises at a momentous life change, whether you're an empty nester or retiree selling your family home, a newlywed blending your households, or cleaning out your parents' property after they've moved into assisted living or passed away.
Decluttering guru Peter Walsh knows the difficulty of downsizing firsthand. Along with six of his siblings, he went through the process of downsizing his family home and dividing his late parents' possessions. He realized that making these decisions about mementos and heirlooms creates strong emotions and sometimes sibling rivalries. After this experience, he downsized his own home. Peter doesn't see downsizing as a difficult chore - rather, it's a freeing, rejuvenating process. Now, in Let It Go, you'll access Peter's many tips and practical takeaways, such as how to:
- Understand the emotional challenges that accompany downsizing
- Create strategies for working with your spouse, adult kids, or siblings without drama
- Identify the objects that will bring you real happiness

From the title I thought this was going to be about downsizing my own home. However much of the book is dedicated to clearing out a parents home and dealing with siblings.

I should have chosen a different book
I think this wasn't the right book for me at this time. I found it depressing because I'm not ready to think about decluttering my parent's home. I like Peter Walsh but not this book. And it was a little repetitive. It was more of a 2 star book for me but I think the book deserved a higher rating than that even though it didn't appeal to me.

This was a very helpful book
I finished listening to this book, the first time, but I know I will listen to it again and again. This book has a lot of insight into decluttering now. This book is up to date and it points out different aspects of decluttering that need to be addressed. Walsh knows the ins and out of this process and communicates it very well. I will keep listening as I go through this process.

Very impactful on this new phase and how I related and attitudes towards it.
So very helpful to take time to recognize your head space, and realize why you are keeping things. I am grateful to hear I do not need to have permission, to craft my life, from anyone else but me, or those who have direct impact on how my things effect them. This has been very helpful.

I’ve read a number of books on decluttering and downsizing. This book offered me new insight into the items I owned. I listened to this book while I was actually doing a clear out and was able to let go of many items.

Downsizing is the new way to live!
Peter Walsh does it again. We love this book as we are currently downsizing. This is great if you can read it or listen before you downsize but if you are like us and had to move quickly and well we had 3-4 houses into one and no kids in one move! It is fabulous. Thanks, Peter, I am getting there and life is feeling much lighter!
