amongst many, my favorite book on decluttering

I can't believe that I intially underestimated this book. I bought many, many audio books on decluttering despite not owning that many possessions, and was an avid fan of the show Hoarders. I was huge fan of Cory Chalmers compared to Matt (I really like Matt on the show, but he and Dorothy very gentle in approach on the show and I preferred Cory's no-nonsense approach) but this book changed my mind, and all because I couldn't find a book to spend a credit on for the month of July and came across this.

Matt's book is a mix of stories from his life, spanning from what led him to his profession, a great assortment of his previous clients spanning many age groups (which is actually, very relevant as we all age and will need to know someday what others go through), the troubles they faced and then Matt's very own dilemma when faced to downsize his own life marrying a minimalist. (I loved that he included the types of senior living accommodations and then list their differences, i will need this one day)

and although he isn't a psychologist like Dr Tompkins (my fav) or Dr Tolin (bought their books too) Matt has given me in more concise language to understand the feelings or hidden emotional attachment and the true definition of legacy. Thank you so much Matt, even if it took you decades to write this, I'm so happy to have heard your voice.

Great book if you can hear it all

There is so much great information in this book. It is rich with stories and resources. However, the level of vocal fry makes it incredibly difficult to get through. Having to rewind and turn the volume up is a bit of an inconvenience.

Thankful for Matt and his wisdom!

Matt is such an insightful and intuitive being and he has always been my favorite professional cleaner on the show “Hoarders”. It was so refreshing to listen to a man who understands people in general. This book was sent from God. I am planning on moving and the process has been so overwhelming with the amount of stuff I’ve accumulated. I accidentally stumbled on a post on Facebook about this new book, and immediately I felt like God was leading me out of my situation through Matt’s words. Thank you for writing this, and I hope you write more books!

Practical advice that is grounded in honoring loved ones

I had watched Matt Paxton on Hoarders and saw that he always respected his clients wholeheartedly. I lost my mother and this book was exactly what I needed to process the multiple generations of precious things in her home. His advice is real, new, and sensitive. It isn’t the same old “toss it” advice you get elsewhere. I highly recommend listening to this audible BEFORE you lose a loved one. Lots to learn before they die and lots to apply to our own lives in general.

Incentive and inspiration to declutter

I listened to this book while culling through “treasures” I had collected for years. I have been able to get rid of things I haven’t used for years but felt disloyal for even thinking about donating. I will be listening to it again to keep the encouragement going. Thank you, Max Paxton!

Thanks for sharing this hard earned knowledge with us. I feel confident I can let go of my own things and help others with theirs. I just donated 2 bags of clothes and I feel so much lighter! Thank you.

Older but with timeless advice

Our first move in almost 30 years. Boy have things changed hard to declutter, hard to let go, but the book gives practical plainspoken advice! Felt like a friend was guiding me through the decisions that needed to be made one way or another. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
