Everywhere around you are distractions: That text you respond to quickly, just to get it out of the way. The newest money-making side hustle to cross your mind. The evening spent organizing your overflowing kitchen cupboards. Disruptions are the enemies of a life well lived—both the new distractions of our generation and timeless ones that have existed for centuries. Story
Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very lives we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Thank your things for the purpose for which they served you and allow them to move on
Or something like that. Haha. I really enjoyed this listen. It was a great merriment between practicality, science and storytelling. I didn’t agree with everything but the author continuously emphasized do what works for you and constantly gave alternatives. Overall I felt like it gave some great tangibles such as What do you want to keep? instead of what do you want to give away? And the concept of the cost of things being the price of the time and enjoyment they take from you. Ill be referencing again and using these guidelines to better my family. To minimalism!

Inspiring and motivating with plenty of common sense
I really enjoyed this. It felt much more realistic than some I have read or listened to before. It is aimed at families so there were parts that felt really relevant to me such as how to manage toys or birthday parties. I liked the focus on how a more minimalist lifestyle can free up time and focus for what you really want to do (ie. Less time washing, looking for things, maintaining, tidying and more time connecting with your family). It’s definitely inspired me to keep pressing on with decluttering.

They all add up to make you feel restless, tired, and unfulfilled. They’re keeping you from living with joy, from accomplishing the good that only you can do.

Story
Fumio Sasaki changed his life when he became a minimalist. But before minimalism could really stick, he had to make it a habit. All of us live our lives based on the habits we’ve formed, from when we get up in the morning to what we eat and drink to how likely we are to actually make it to the gym. In Hello, Habits, Sasaki explains how we can acquire the new habits that we want - and get rid of the ones that don’t do us any good.
