Publisher's Summary

Beneath the mountain, the king's reign of tyranny is absolute; the one troll with the capacity to challenge him is imprisoned for treason. Cecile has escaped the darkness of Trollus, but she learns all too quickly that she is not beyond the reach of the king's power. Or his manipulation.

Recovered from her injuries, she now lives with her mother in Trianon and graces the opera stage every night. By day she searches for the witch who has eluded the trolls for 500 years. Whether she succeeds or fails, the costs to those she cares about will be high. To find Anushka, she must delve into magic that is both dark and deadly. The witch is a clever creature, and Cecile might not just be the hunter. She might also be the hunted.

Love this story but.....

I wanted to SCREAM at the characters for not figuring out the "plot twist" when I did. Seriously frustrating when you figure out what's going on half way thru the book and everyone else is clueless. With all that being said... I still do enjoy this story. Like with a lot of second books this one was a bit slow and felt like a really big build up for book 3. I will definitely be reading that when it comes out:)

Wonderful new series

I am always so glad to find a new author and this one is great. The two narrators are wonderful and really added to the enjoyment of the book. I am just sad I have to wait so long for the concluding book.

Even better than the first book

Loved it! It will be hard to wait for the next installment. This is so much more than a love story. I love how the world and story unfold through events and how the characters experience them. This book brings their worlds to the brink of war even as trust is challenged. This series has surpassed my expectations and I'm thrilled to have found it.

A lot better than the first!

The book starts out slow mostly because Tristan and Cecil are apart but it gets a lot better. It gets very exciting but the end of this book and a great setup for the third.

Not as good as the last.

This book bothered me a great deal with the many contrived reasoning why they couldn’t be happy with Tristan getting out. Example, not wanting to take off the manacles. Stupid they were killing him and thus her and if he was dead everything for the trolls is lost. However, he didn’t want her to take them off??
I knew the witch was her mother and how she was prolonging her life early on in the book and it was annoying watching the characters fumbling around trying to figure it out. There were several other illogical things that bothered me during this book so I am not giving it as high of stars as the others.

I'll have to see what happens next

This is not the best book I have listened too. The heroin consistently gets on my nerves and the plot seems thin and simple. Having said that, it does have a way of drawing you in and leaving you wanting to know what happens next!

Fine story-telling

A good story that stays in the mind until it is finished. Second in the series, it continues the story, bringing it around to the next level. Character development continues in satisfying directions, and keeps up the quick pace.

The narrators switch off as perspectiveGB in the story shifts. The transitions were written to flow cleanly into the next, and there is no confusion while listening. Both actors step out of the way of the story, with distinct voices for each character, making for an easy and delightful listen.

While not particularly a fan of how the romance develops in book one, the rest of the story was enjoyable including some interesting world development. The overall story line presents an age-old conflict in a setting unique enough to engage the reader, yet not so different as to distract from tale.

The mysterious person our heroes are tasked to find, seems clear enough to the reader. It might take a little patience while waiting for them to see it. That and certain grammar choices were only a little frustrating--certainly not enough to interfere with the overall enjoyment.

If you enjoyed the first book you'll likely enjoy this one. Overall worth the listen!

fantastic!

I have swiftly fallen in love with this series but now dread listeners to the final installation as it will be the last!
I did however guess who Anushka was right at the very beginning of the very first book, call it writers hunch!

Loved it, can't wait for next book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, Its just what they would like romance, danger and magic. Very well written and very well read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked all the Characters, it's told from the two main characters points of view from the way they feel to the way they see the world around them.

Have you listened to any of Erin Moon and Eric Michael Summerer ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, I loved Stolen Song Bird the first in the series, they read that the same way, very expressive you believe they are the characters.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Beauty And The Beast have nothing on this love affair!

Any additional comments?

If you like magic and romance you will love this.

Some parts needed more

Not as good as the first book. I was disappointed that there wasn't more written about why anoshka? Had trapped the trolls.

Frustrating

I will say before I start this that I'm 28 yrs old and haven't been a fan of YA fiction in a long time.

Now. Let's begin. First, I enjoyed the first book and was drawn in to buy the other two. The second book got on my nerves and the final book was an great effort to finish. If you like books that are so frustratingly repeativiely melodramic and reflect the inner turmoil of teenagers, then this book is for you. If like me, you don't, don't read this.

The main characters make ENDLESS plans that endlessly NEVER EVER work out!!!!!! And I mean never. The character monologue is repeative because the plot is repetitive. About the only good thing about the last two books was the ending of the third book because it was over but it also wasnt too bad an ending.

So they're teenagers so maybe that accounts for the fact that NOTHING ever goes right in this series and they're ALWAYS repeating themselves, but from an adult's perspective enough's enough.

I hope Tristan and Cecil are better concoctors of plans in eternity because I don't have the time to stick around to find out.

P. S. I understand that people have enjoyed this series and I'm being a fair bit melodramic myself, but I have been honest in my struggle to finish these books. My opinions about reviews is always to read less of them and go with what you like and enjoy. If you think you might enjoy these books, forget you read this and let the drama begin!!
