Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers and listeners around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters.

The Wheel of Time turns and ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

For three days battle has raged in the snow around the great city of Tar Valon. In the city, a Foretelling of the future is uttered. On the slopes of Dragonmount, the immense mountain that looms over the city, is born an infant prophesied to change the world. That child must be found before the forces of the Shadow have an opportunity to kill him.

Moiraine Damodred, a young Accepted soon to be raised to Aes Sedai, and Lan Mandragoran, a soldier fighting in the battle, are set on paths that will bind their lives together. But those paths are filled with complications and dangers, for Moiraine, of the Royal House of Cairhien, whose king has just died, and Lan, considered the uncrowned king of a nation long dead, find their lives threatened by the plots of those seeking power.

New Spring begins Moiraine and Lan's quest to find the Dragon Reborn that will lead to the events of The Eye of the World...and their fateful meeting with Rand al'Thor.

New Spring is a perfect jumping-on point for fantasy listeners wanting to know more about The Wheel of Time and the forthcoming TV show.

I am a confirmed fan of the Wheel of Time series. It is easy to read, though the plots and subplots are challenging to follow. I read this prequel after finishing Book 7, and really enjoyed it. This "prequel" is really a vehicle to develop the characters of Lan, Moiraine and Siuan. Since the mystery concerning these characters and the reasons for their quest to find the Dragon Reborn helped make the first three or four volumes more interesting, I recommend a new reader read at least the first three volumes before reading this book. Jordan's prose sounds excellent when read. The readers are talented and, as a result, this is one book that might be more entertaining to listen to than to read.

Well done!

A very absorbing book. In addition to being a terrific story on it's own it really adds to the series. The narration is also excellent. I couldn't stop listening.

Excellent

Good addidition to the wheel of time series. I really enjoyed adding depth to two of the more mysterious characters of the series. Was a little confusing at times with the way some names were pronounced, but I wouldn't say that was a point against it.

All good

This is actually good background information on a few of the main WOT characters, but I found myself becoming distracted from the story repeatedly. I had to keep restarting chapters, because I would realize I didn't know what was going on in the story, and Kate Reading's voice was just noise in my ear. I literally had to force myself to concentrate on listening! For this reason I recommend this book with reservations.

OMG! Interestingly boring!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, the narrators are fabulous.

If you’ve listened to books by Robert Jordan before, how does this one compare?

This one is a great back story allows you to see how some of the power players in the story got there.

Have you listened to any of Kate Reading and Michael Kramer ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Right on par with their excellent narrating, they bring the characters to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

See how it all began!

Any additional comments?

This is a great book to pop in right after book 6. Not going to spoil why but this is a great filler after that book. It also allows you to take a breather from the series.

Good one to read after book 6
