Publisher's summary

Years have passed since the last of the Dark Gods was defeated, and Lothion has entered an age of peace and prosperity. Mordecai’s oldest children have already begun to make a place for themselves, and his youngest are on the cusp of adulthood. By every outward measure, his life has been a success; he has earned his reward.

However, Tyrion, the first wizard and brutal liberator of mankind, has returned with an agenda of his own, and dark things continue to stir at the edges of civilization, threatening to undo Mordecai’s accomplishments.

He must meet the expectations of his queen, his family, and his people, all while finding a way to protect them from the ancient enemy of the She’Har, but his greatest challenge may be dealing with the lingering darkness that is growing within his own heart.

Good story, but the audio is out of order.

I think the last half of the book is at the beginning and vice versa. I was thoroughly confused while listening to the book, but figured out that the book was out of order, at least the audio version. hopefully they figure it out and put it back together the correct way

My Conundrum

What an intricate, well written, interesting, depressing saga that presents the listener with the difficult decision of continuing or breaking away. I loved the first series of books. I pressed on through the next series with the hope that this dark, tortured, the miserable, story will turn. Well, No Joy! I have to stop for a while before I try to finish anymore of "Manning’s" creation.

True Magic!

I love the combination of Alex Wyndham as narrator and Michael G. Manning as writer, and have been a huge fan ever since the two teamed up on the Embers of Illenial series. I admit I cried during this book! I can't wait for the rest of the series. Thank you Alex and Michael for bringing magic to my life! I only wish the books were longer! Highly recommended!

honestly love hate

I have mixed feelings about this series. On one hand it isnt a bad story. On the other hand the "emotional" parts are way to drawn out, and frankly stupid. The stupid decisions some of the characters make are appalling. I get the whole wanting suspense and making it seem like things are grim. However as prior stated things get way to long and drawn out. I think it could be a heck of a lot better. The "drama" needs tweaked and the characters need work and these stories could be a lot better. honestly I wonder if I wasted money on these stories. I own the full series so far. I do like it but I also hate it.

awesome

I honestly don't remember if I have ever had such an emotional reaction while reading an audiobook before, but hot dang I would be lying if I didn't say I had one during this book.

If an ANGEL made a baby with a SIREN...

If an ANGEL made a baby with a SIREN... it would sound like Alex Wyndham. With over 300 books in my audible collection, Michael G has created my favorites. This book is at the top and I even cried a little. I wish that Alex Wyndham could read the Mageborn series over and my world would be complete. I couldn't listen to the books read by Todd McLaren. I just couldn't take his voice seriously, so I read those myself. Bravo Michael G!! Keep em' coming baby!

Manning does it again

while this series isn't for everyone. I love this storyline , and the detail put into it. I will say this would be a hard book to understand without the proceeding series.

Dying to hear the next book. I'll never get sick of this series. the author has a wonderful way of bringing the charcaters to life. almost feels like their thoughts become your thoughts and it's easy to loose your self in these books

Holy smokes. Alex Wyndham and Michael G Manning.

I haven't been this excited about a new series on audible for a while. And thank the gods it delivers and then some. Some of the best narration and fantasy writing on audible. Period.

great story

Much like the rest of the of the authors books, brilliant story and very captivating. narration has been pretty weak but good enough to not completely ruin the story.

Read like a prologue

Having read a few of the author’s other books, I had high hopes. Unfortunately I felt like the whole thing was just a prologue and nothing ever really seemed to happen.

I appreciate that the characters have had their origin story and they are veterans - but because of that the world building fell a little flat. It felt forced. Rather than seeing (reading) their experience and history in a thousand little things, the readers gets struck in the face with a paragraph here and there of history. It took away from the immersion - in my opinion - and I just felt that it didn’t do justice to the rare concept of experienced, older characters.

The conflict also didn’t feel like it had any sense of urgency. Everything that cropped up, he could handle. Again, expected with a veteran character, but then it would have been better if it had developed into an actual threat at some point but by the time the big enemy is there and the political situation is getting worse the book ends.

So yeah, underwhelming.

Great narration though.

Disappointing

Thoroughly enjoyed the Art of the Adept series; however, the change of narrator and the storyline did not appeal to me.

Wow 😯

The story was only a little slow to start but once it did, what a ride. The characters draw you in as well as the story and the performance of Alex Wyndham
