Publisher's summary

So... you want to know how to become a god?

Well, I'll be honest: this ain't that type of guide. So why the name, you ask? Well, it sounded good.

My story is an odd one, full of magic, drama, and a whole lot of Bob. Who's Bob, you ask? Listen and find out.

I never really expected to go from full-time Neet to a God, but you know how life hits, right? Well, it doesn't really matter in the end. What matters is how I got there. You know how I said this ain't that type of guide? Well, maybe it can be. Maybe you'll figure some things out along the way—who knows? Actually I do, and you probably won't, but who cares, right? So take a seat in your mother's basement ,or whatever hole you live in, and listen to the story of how I, a full-time Neet, became a God.

I enjoyed it. I’ll give the next one a try. Hopefully it’s as good.

No erotica filler here and how refreshing it is. 10+ hours of a growth story where is the goal is to become a god and to protect his friends while he’s at it. Not bang every chick that walks by. There is a harem element but it’s more like friends with benefits at this point. The scenes that could be considered explicit fade to black.
As far as the narration goes, if you don’t like Daniel Wisniewski buy the Kindle version and you can have Alexa read it to you if monotone narration is more up your alley. Because Daniel does his usual excellent job.

Enjoyable.

I really liked the fast paced plot and the character building. This is another one of the good litrpg's that don't crit you with stat spam. On the negative side, I think some of Richard's emotions were savagely overdone. Especially the anger toward the end of the book. Seemed really out of character for our struggling protagonist. All in all, I'll be listening to the next book shortly.

absolutely amazing

I've read the first two and while short, they are great progression fantasy books. the remind me of the "swing shift" books if a vit earlier in his life. love every bit of it wish it was longer. can't wait for the third.

Strong Start and Weak Progression

This book starts off really well, with a self-loathing MC and a relatable talking grimoire. Each of them has obvious motivations that happen to align, and I was excited to see how they would work together. The magic system and urban fantasy bits weren't all that unique, but they weren't dumb either.

The problem is that the way that our MC gets back on his feet is both too easy to be motivational, and too rewarding to be realistic. Sure, he uses some magic BS to lose weight and gain muscle, so it makes in-world sense, but it barely takes a month and is skimmed over quite a bit. And worst of all, he suffers no relapses into his self-destructive mindset. Literally zero. That combined with the "rewards" make it feel totally unrelatable.

First off, glow up. He goes from disgustingly obese with terrible acne and rotting teeth to a strong-jawed, handsome hunk in a MONTH. There is very little character growth attached to this transformation, which robs it of everything interesting. It's too slow (a full month long) for him to feel any meaningful imposter syndrome, and too fast (a month that was heavily summarized) to feel like he earned it. It was clearly supposed to be motivational to people in his situation, but totally falls flat.

Second off, the women. All of the side characters are women. His personal trainer? A buff orc chick. His therapist? A hot half-elf babe. His alchemist? A slutty nerd. His goddamn tailor? A handsy fairy milf. It's totally unbelievable, and considering all of them expressed interest in him to some degree, it's kind of disgusting. I personally find harem stories to be unpleasant, and this is sure shaping up to be one. Hell, he's even getting FONDLED by passing women. Are boundaries a lie??

All of this glow up and harem setup are in place of any real exploration of the relationship between the MC and his grimoire, which was the main hook of the story. And by 4 hours in, I have no idea what type of magic user he is. There is no indication of what style of combat he's going to specialize in (full-caster, mind-mage, summoner, power knight, etc.) and absolutely no indications of his limitations. The last part is kind of expected since he's supposed to become a god, eventually, but it doesn't do anything helpful for the stakes.

I was really excited for this book, but can't continue reading it. If you're okay with harem elements, and the total disregard of the self-loathing plotline, then you might enjoy this. Otherwise, give it a hard pass.

TL;DR: Good character setup, but a disrespectful and nonchalant glow-up, and a disappointing supporting cast who all fawn over the MC with no real progression for the interesting character setups. Hard pass.

Harem toucjust but doesn't overpower the story

Aram touches but does not overpower the story this is a great Start and is not what you would expect from a hair broke in that there is sex but it's slightly touched on it doesn't overpower the story and It's 3rd tier Of the story allowing you to see the great potential in this just as a story can't wait until the next one comes out it should be interesting

Suckered in

Started off well enough. But it suddenly added all this in world political stuff. But there is a lot of sex centric stuff that’s approached as if a 12 year old dreamed it. I stopped with 5 hrs left.

Good start but DNF cause maybe harems.

I liked the start, the character was a good canvas for a good story, but halfway through the story started to give off the vibe that they would be harems later on and it wasn’t a good enough to stay just for there to be harems. My only rule when reading is no harems and looking at RR for the reviews there it seem like there is a harem later on.

Not my favorite

The beginning of this book is super interesting and will definitely motivate you to hit the gym, but after that it looses some steam... or turns it up too much? I felt like the second half focused a bit too much on all the sex the MC was having. I will say top notch performance by Daniel Wisniewski
