Story
My name is Nate Temple, and I’m secretly a wizard. I ride a foul-mouthed unicorn, drink with Achilles, and am pals with the Four Horsemen. I’ve even cow tipped the Minotaur. I understand the theory of following the rules. I’m just not very good at the application. Because, rules were meant to be broken. Especially when I find out a monster just murdered my parents. Now all I can hear is the sweet, soothing song of vengeance in my ears, playing on repeat.

My name is Quinn MacKenna, and magic doesn’t work on me. When I’m not getting roped into bar brawls in Boston, I’m usually acquiring - stealing is a form of acquisition, you know - dangerous magical artifacts to turn around and sell them to the highest bidders. But I prefer to be paid in favors, not money. Because favors are a hot commodity in the Land of the Fae. Favors are the only currency that will buy the answers I seek: Why magic doesn’t work on me, and who my real father is.

Before the now-infamous Count Dracula ever tasted his first drop of blood, Sorin Ambrogio owned the night. Humanity fearfully called him the Devil. Cursed by the gods, Sorin spent centuries bathing Europe in oceans of blood with his best friends, Lucian and Nero, the world’s first Werewolf and Warlock - an unholy trinity if there ever was one. Until the three monsters grew weary of the carnage, choosing to leave it all behind and visit the brave New World across the ocean. As they befriended a Native American tribe, they quickly forgot that monsters can never escape their past.

A cursed druid, blackmailed by a faery queen to find a missing magic rock. Let's just hope they don't hack the druid off...for everyone's sake. Name's Colin McCool. Folks call me the Junkyard Druid. I hate that name. Despite my last name, I'm not "cool" like the other hunters in town. I don't run an occult bookstore, I've never owned a Harley, and I didn't inherit a family fortune passed down through generations of hunters before me. And I kind of have this curse on me that's messed up my life.

Publisher's Summary
The first three novels and the prequel novella in the million-selling Nate Temple Series: Obsidian Son, Blood Debts, Grimm, and Fairy Tale.
My name is Nate Temple, and I’m secretly a wizard.
I ride a foul-mouthed unicorn, I drink with Achilles, and I’m pals with the Four Horsemen. I’ve even cow-tipped the Minotaur. I understand the theory of following the rules...I’m just not very good at the application.
Because rules were meant to be broken, and St. Louis has a bit of a supernatural infestation these days. Someone should probably be keeping an eye on these things -and probably an eye on me, too. Before I blow up another building...or three.

Basically Batman with lizard brain
Sort of a fun story. Definitely glad I got 4 books for one credit. But that’s it.
I couldn’t get passed the fact that every single woman in this story is described in excruciating sexual detail. And all but one woman character is portrayed as flirty, blushing and or their bust size and body shape absolutely was crucial to the story.
The author breaks the fourth wall so much that his childish tenor and vocabulary ooze thru the page and makes me hate the main character.

Great if you like fast-paced anxiety? :-/
The story is actually good. But...the main characters are basically miserable at -all- times. Betrayal, massive stress, no good choices, No character development except for constant unnecessary emotional pain, anguish, and consequences for going the route of 'lesser evil' - because those are the -only- paths they get to pick from. No one ever gets down time where they get to enjoy the world the author builds (thus allowing the reader/listener to enjoy it) . No one ever gets anything they want. No one gets to be happy. Ever. It's just a non-stop bullet train of pain and sadness.
I listened to the first 6 books in the series, -hoping- that something good happens to any of these great characters eventually. Hasn't happened yet in 6 books, and honestly it stresses me out.
Author does a great job conveying the character's emotions to the reader/listener. But it upsets me the only emotions they get (and thus share with the reader/listener) is anxiety and emotional pain. I -like- the characters, and I sort of hate the author for constantly breaking them down without giving them a chance to build back up. Occasionally funny dialogue and banter helps mitigate the sheer depression, but those moments are band-aids on a bullet wounds.
If you love bullet-train style fast pace, and reading about other people's emotional misery...it is a great story. But if you actually want to smile aside from the occasional funny quip...you're better off looking elsewhere.

I Really Really Wanted to Like This Book
....but I hated the Main Character. The Temple is everything you think you love about Batman and then realize you hate Batman. He's super rich, women love to fuck him, he's his own man that owns his own bookstore. Fine. It's canned. That's the point or reading Urban Fantasy. My problem was that the character was equal parts misogynistic pig and fantasy trope. I couldn't get over the "women want to fuck me but I only love this one woman and I love her with everything I have but Imma fuck all these other chicks cuz I'm a man." His friends are marginally better. The story is good but I hated the MC and I just couldn't get through it. The narrator is good but really didn't belong reading a fantasy setting that wasn't serious. He was dry, uncaring of the media, and seemed to force himself through certain passages. I just don't think this book was a good fit for him.

I love listening to series where the stories progress. But I started in the middle and that was ok because the stories were complete in themselves. I love the Templeverse! Suggest it for anyone who like real people & situations with magic thrown into the middle. Highly recommend this series!!!’

Poor Man's Harry Dresden
If you can make it thru the horrendous narration in Book 1 , then you deserve to be disappointed by Book 2. Don't get me wrong someone must have talked to the narrator after Book 1 because it's a little better.....gone is the very affected "Sam Spade" type of hoarse unintelligible monotonous narration that actually made me nod out and not give a crap about the characters or the story line. But unfortunately after reading and hearing other types of books of the same genre, there just seems to be a bit of lack of original imagination......For me Books 1-3 were lacking in original imagination....by that I mean taking known mythological characters and trying to revive them into today's situations.....if they were all new characters that might have been better.....so you find yourself not really enjoying or having your attention and imagination captured like in the Harry Dresden or Sandman Slim series.....both those narrators breathe life into the characters and the stories have "original" characters with full character development....no so in this series....the best part was "Cow Tipping" the Minitour and that happened in the first 5 minutes of Book 1.....then a few cool fight scenarios....then downhill from there. Try the Harry Dresden or Sandman Slim Series and you'll see what I'm talking about...... gonna put the rest of this book on hold and listen to the "Marshall Drummond Case Files"

NOT BAD AT ALL BUT COULD BE BETTER
The only real issue I have with this book is the financial debacles in this story. The fbi cannot freeze the company accounts simply because the majority shareholder (The owner, Nate) is missing. It being a shareholder styled company means it is traded on the open market. It is considered its own entity. It is more than likely a LLC (limited liability company). Meaning what personal issues the owner is involved in outside the company, the company cannot be in held in situ or liable for what he does personally outside company business. Also Nate cannot do whatever he pleases with the company. The board or shareholder reps would have to vote and agree on implementing anything that affects the company, its value, and its public opinion or reputation.
Other than that, the story, its action scenes, depth of its world, character personalities, and its side quests or alternate storylines all tie together nicely and without confusion. Well written for the most part.

Could learn a lesson or three from Jim Butcher !
Not bad, has potential. but needs to reign in the school boy "dog on heat" attitude when it comes to the female characters. Really could learn a thing or two from a more mature, better author like Jim Butcher and the Dresden Files Series. Dont get me wrong, the stories are good but wears a bit thin when all the women have spectacular breasts and cause the men to strain in their trousers ....just crack on with the story mate and leave the smut to cheesy teenage vampire crap

Brilliant story
If you can get over the horrible monotone delivery in the first book, then you can realise what a great story this is. The delivery does get better, but the narrator isn't the most inspiring, luckily the writing does grip you & you want to know more about Nate, his friends & his world. He does seem to have gone from magical, slightly better than average to almost godlike in only 3 books though. So what can come next?

I was really hoping this series would be amazing. But unfortunately it fell way short for me. Nate's voice is so mundane and monotone it was kinda boring. I stopped listening at chapter 20 in the first book, maybe it gets better after that.

First in series but grows on you.
I like omnibuses like these, especially for first in series books. It takes a while to find you’re stride as an author so it’s good to see the book in the context of further works. The first one was enjoyable but had some annoying problems. I strongly dislike the every guy/girl main meets finds him irresistible trope. That is toned down by book three. I love to see a character grow. Already reading the next set in the series!
