This is a tale that used to be about dungeons... Now it's mostly about walking in the woods with a friend, looking for mushrooms to put in your soup. Maybe haggling with the squash seller, or taking care of a neglected garden, or even just putting some jam on a good shortbread biscuit. And yes, sometimes you still go down into the dungeons with your friends, and kill monsters there, disarm traps, avoid spiked pits etcetera, etcetera. But when you come out now, it's not really about the gold and loot.

Don't miss this one.
It does start out a little rough, but hang in there. This book is essentially a more grounded adventure following the LitRPG formula. What will surprise you is the action and environmental setup. Very well done and impactful. This should be the start of a great series.
The only thing I would change is the "reluctant hero" angle. It's overplayed a bit.

Not The Usual Power Trip
The MC is a “hero” that schemes like a top tier villain; very observant and manipulative. He’s not afraid to gaslight someone to get results and his approach is clinical in most circumstances. It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you go into this with an open mind, I think you’ll enjoy it. Great characters and world building. Narration is top notch.

Very different, very good!
I absolutely loved this story! Despite the genre, this feels real. You have an incredibly intelligent MC who is so flawed in all the right ways that you can't help but applaud even just his potential for both character progression and power. It's a breath of fresh air that doesn't inundate you with stats every 2 mins and focuses on the story. It's dark and cynical, but if you kind of align with that, then you'll find a lot of solid comic relief. If you're not that way or don't have a dark sense of humor, you'll want to watch a video of kittens for a bit to take breaks from this one. I powered through cuz it was just too good for me to put down. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this story. Can't get enough of the tactical and intelligent plays in here. Very creative!

Much better than some reviews suggest !!
Over 1300 audio books in my library. Lately been running into a lot of duds. Look forward to the next book. Don't get me wrong I have read or listened to many books this year I would have given a 1 or 2 to. This is not such a book.

Very enjoyable listen!
This was a very entertaining piece of work! I enjoyed the characters found within and the protagonist is quite unique. It has a hero against the world kind of vibe. Read this!

Loved it
Totally hard to put down once you start type a book. I really enjoyed the main characters personality being so different from normal, made it more interesting. Can’t wait for more.
