She was close enough to see that the girl had written a word on the wall in bright, warm red blood. Not a word, actually. A name...

Everyone in the small town of Denton is searching for Isabelle Coleman, a missing 17-year-old girl. All they've found so far is her phone and another girl they didn't even know was missing.

Mute and completely unresponsive to the world around her, it's clear this mysterious girl has been damaged beyond repair. All Detective Josie Quinn can get from her is a name: Ramona.

Currently suspended from the force for misconduct, Josie takes matters into her own hands as the name leads her to evidence linking the two girls. She knows the race is on to find Isabelle alive, and she fears there may be others....

The trail leads Josie to another victim, a girl who escaped but whose case was labelled a hoax by authorities. To catch this monster, Josie must confront her own nightmares and follow her instinct to the darkest of places. But can she make it out alive?

Fans of Angela Marsons, Helen Fields, and Robert Dugoni will be utterly gripped and listening long into the night once they discover the first in this unputdownable new crime thriller series.

I actually listened to the second book in this series first. This author is new to me, and I like her books so far. However, I’m not sure I can continue to listen to them. This narrator is one of the worst ones I’ve heard, and I’ve listened to a lot of audiobooks. I’m guessing she’s from another country, judging by the way she mispronounces so many words. For example, the state of Maryland was pronounced Mary-land. Estrogen was east-rogen. Record, as in “for the record” was Rec-CORD. Ugh! Those are just a few examples. I almost can’t stand to listen to her! And the way she talks makes the characters come off as very aggressive. I’ve found myself cringing multiple times while listening to her narrate. It looks like I may be reading the other books in this series. So best of luck to those who decide to listen to this story or any other in this series.

Why this narrator??!

I loved this book. The story was great. but the Narrator... not so much....

loved this book

I honestly don't know how this narrator is chosen to read books! She has a Canadian accent, which is fine, but not for narrating books set in the States. She also seems to have difficulty pronouncing words correctly, and she's very awkward when switching characters.

The Narrator!

When listening to a book that is supposed to take place in Pennsylvania, I expect the narrator to be American, or at least be able to preform in a believable American accent. I found the way she spoke, the accent that she spoke in, and the mispronunciations of so many words incredible distracting. I wish I had read other reviews instead of relying on just the star rating alone. I really did enjoy this story, and that was the only thing that kept me listening. I will not however purchase another one in this series as an audio book. I will stick with reading it.

Accent/pronunciation was very distracting

I finally fought through my annoyance to listen to the story. the story is quite good but I can't stand the narrator. Accents are all over the place, cadence is weird, grossly over dramatized in places, truly unpleasant to listen to. This is really disappointing as I like this author and her other narrators are quite good.

The narration is so horrible

This book was driving me crazy. Not because it was a badly written, but because I absolutely could not figure out what was going on with the treatment of the main character Josie Quinn. Well worth listening. I'm definitely going to get the next book in this series.

Kept me guessing till then end...

Unfortunately, the narrator was awful. her accent was terrible and so many mispronounced words it was distracting.

Story was great, held my interest the entire book.

This was my first ever suspense/psychological thriller/ mystery book. I'd been putting off the genre for fear of not liking it...I was not disappointed. The narrator was pretty good, aside from the fact that every once in a while she'd slip into an almost-valley-girl voice during dialogue which was more endearingly cute than anything else.
The plot was so unique and intricate and flowy. I was never bored or let down, and while parts were predictable, the majority wasn't. I have no regrets about this story and am gonna go read the second in the series.

Holy crap!

This was a good story but could have been so much better with a different narrator. The characters tone was off… bitter and angry sounding. It was very distracting and disappointing.

Good story but…..

I liked the story line and it kept my attention but sadly I have to agree with the other reviews...the narrator was tough to get through. I tried speeding it up as someone suggested and it helped some but overall the mispronunciation was annoying after a while.

Good story
