Unbelievable main character

The reader did an excellent job. The story was weak and annoying. A detective who is so busy reliving childhood memories rather than focusing on the current trauma of a missing child makes a very unlikeable character. And frankly the constant flashbacks detracted from the story rather than adding to it.

Narrator…

I just don’t like the narrator… too clipped in her performance. It takes away from the story…

Short fast read

This Amazon Original was a fast audible listen. Most notably, the short story uses a nonverbal autistic child in a respectful manner. I appreciated the clarification, nonverbal does not mean unintelligent. The author also points out deliberately, the need for this child and others with the diagnosis to have a schedule. In addition, the story skates around parental screaming matches and the effects on children. Quite frankly, I thought the approach was beautifully done. Many people will be able to relate.

The story centers around a murder and all the usual bookish things necessary to keep us (readers) coming back.

I enjoyed the narrator.

There was swearing, minimally, as if it was a requirement.

Great intro to Bree and series!

This was a great short little story. It goes through the case very well and is a great intro to Bree Taggert and her partner for the series. I really enjoyed it and thought it was well done.

Nice beginning story

It was nice to “see” her first case with Dana. Buying it outright was cheaper. I would use a credit for it.

Good but…

The story and narration were good but there was an annoying audio hiss in the recording. This was distracting and should have been corrected before making it available especially if this is an Audible Original.

Compelling story

The fast pace of this murder mystery kept my interest, as well as the narrator’s entertaining reading.
